Consew 701 for shoemaking

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I've tried searching the forum to see if anyone else has asked about this machine but nothing came up. I'm looking to buy my first commercial sewing machine to assemble boot and shoe uppers, and I'm thinking of getting a Consew 701 because I can get one from a dealer locally (which would save the hassle of dealing with shipping), but I haven't seen a lot of feedback online about this specific model. Has anyone here used one? Mainly I'm wondering how well it handles thin leather for women's dress shoes, as well as thicker leather for boots.

Additionally, what is the general opinion of the quality of Consew sewing machines, user-friendliness, etc? I could also get a Cowboy machine from the same dealer, but the Consew happens to be cheaper ($2400 vs $2700).

Thanks!

What model is the cowboy machine?

Check if the machines have the same specs f.i. needle feed , stitch length, thread thickness, foot lift, accessories and so forth...  do they have clutch or servo motor...

When the 2 machines come from the same dealer he should be able to explain the price difference - maybe a different motor or an additional speed reducer...

Also, look at the consew website, seems these machines can come in different sub classes and therefore different prices.

Hi all. I'm new to the site. I'm looking into one of the Consew 701s as well. Does anyone know the max thread that can be used in the needle and bobbin? I'm only looking to sew handbags and clothes (no holsters, sheaths, or harnesses), so nothing heavy duty needed.  138 should be fine. Also, anyone now the sewing capacity for leather? I see foot clearance on the Consew site, but no mention of leather thickness that can be sewed.
