Members sheowahya Posted September 8, 2007 Members Report Posted September 8, 2007 Hi everyone! I just bought a kit and when I got it home and opened it up I found a line down the middle of the leather about 1/2" wide where it looks like it was exposed to the sunlight for too long. Is there anyway I can get rid of this? Or minimize its presence in the final piece? Or should I just scrap the leather and cut my own? All suggestions are welcome. Marilyn Quote
Moderator Johanna Posted September 8, 2007 Moderator Report Posted September 8, 2007 Marilyn- take it back to the Tandy store and ask for an exchange. You could maybe work around the sun spot, but why? Chances are that the area where the sun has darkened the leather is not going to accept any finish like the rest of the piece. Michael Sheldon Posted September 9, 2007 Report Posted September 9, 2007 Agreed, unless you're planning on dying it very dark, there's nothing that can be done to minimize it. Veg-tanned leather will tan in sunlight. It's why I boarded up the window in my workshop. Quote Michael Sheldon Desert Raven Leather
