Johanna Report post Posted September 9, 2007 Featuring hand-tooled leather tops – with scenes of busting broncos and a cattle drive – and green full-quill ostrich bottoms, with more hand-tooling on the heels and even on the soles, Mr. Chappell's boots were built for the annual Boot and Saddle Makers Trade Show Roundup in Wichita Falls in 2003. Mr. Chappell won that competition, as he has three of the last four years. But early last week, a man in his 20s and wearing tennis shoes strolled in to Trail Town Custom Leather and spoke with Mr. Chappell's apprentice, John Glaze, about having a pair of boots repaired. story here: Dallas News The boots were recovered: "The guy wore them into several Western-wear stores," Mr. Chappell said, "so we've got about 10 positive photo IDs of the suspect." Randyc Report post Posted November 26, 2007 Joanna, I felt bad when I heard Carl's boots were stolen. I studied boot making under Carl Chappel a year ago this past June and have admired that particular pair of boots on several occasions
