Tacker info ... please ?

Recommended Posts

I've been looking at "Tackers" lately and am wondering about the mechanisms. Regarding the mechanical type, does the feeding actually stop while the needle is in the material ?

And the electronic type, same question.

Or is there something that allows continuous movement of the material ? A "wobbling" effect ? (if you will).

I imagine an X / Y axis set up with servo motors but these things run so fast, I cant imagine there being a pause at every stitch !

I have the resources, is it feasible to build a CNC style x/y feed bed for one of the heavier tackers to use with leather ?

Thanks

Hi folks. I searched a few videos (very slow connection here) and see the smaller tackers are so lightning fast its hard to imagine the movement stopping for every stitch. Then I saw some very heavy machines where it runs slow enough to see the material stop for every stitch, like in the video here.

This is sort of what I have in mind. Possibly for my 7-33 that is missing the lower feed mechanism (not much luck finding the needed parts). I have the software for programming, motors, electrical and mechanical components to construct the X / Y stage ..... would be an interesting project.

A heavy bar tacker, if cheap enough, should work as well ? I  looked at a Pfaff 3335 whicj looked heavy enough for 1/4" of leather. Is that a reasonable thickness for that machine ?

Thanks
