HeatherStimson Report post Posted May 3, 2020 Hi, I'm specifically looking for instructions on the best way to mix mica powders (or similar products) and applying it to kangaroo lace. I know I don't want to paint it, way too many stories of the paint coming off on the braided leashes. I have found bits and pieces of info, but am struggling to find good comprehensive instructions specific to kangaroo lace. I know it should be stretched, beveled and split before dyeing. But there's a few other questions I have. 1. are there any other preps I need to do before dyeing? 2. what do I mix the mica with to dye the lace? how much do I use? 3. best way to apply the dye mix to the lace? Can I just dip it? for how long? 4. how many times is it applied? how long does it need to dry in between coats? 5. best way to finish the color? ie a sealant? what type? when? or am I better off to seal it after it's used in a project? (I make braided leashes so there's a lot of use) I appreciate any tips! Undyed lace is hard to find so I don't want to ruin anything if I can avoid it. johnv474 Report post Posted May 4, 2020 Can you share some of the resources you have found? Some of us may not be familiar with mica but possibly could help piece together the info you need. For starters, are you starting with undyed/unsealed veg tan kangaroo lace?
