Members Danpa Posted December 1, 2020 Members Report Posted December 1, 2020 Rookie question I guess. Is 100% neatsfoot oil the same as neatsfoot compound? All I could find was the compound. I want to put Resoline on top of it and want to make sure before I screw up a new piece. Thanks! Quote
Members Arturomex Posted December 1, 2020 Members Report Posted December 1, 2020 No, the compound is not the same as 100% Neatsfoot. I've never used the compound but many people here have tried it and don't recommend it. You could do a site search and I'm sure you'll find some threads relating to that specifically. I don't tend to use Neatsfoot for a several reasons: It oxidizes and makes leather brittle over time and I question the provenance of even the stuff labelled as 100% Neatsfoot. I suspect it might have other types of fat (ie lard) in it and it darkens the leather. Neatsfoot is, I think, water soluble and shouldn't give you any problems with a Resolene finish. As to the Resolene - I get much better results applying two coats diluted at 1:1 with water than by applying it at full strength. Regards, Arturo Quote
