Members rawhide1 Posted September 30, 2007 Members Report Posted September 30, 2007 Hi I hope everyone is doing fine. I was wondering if any one has used rawhide made from buffalo and if so how does it compare to cow rawhide. Thanks Mike Quote
Elton Joorisity Posted September 30, 2007 Report Posted September 30, 2007 Mike, I have used buffalo rawhide(bison). The one thing that I found is that you pretty much have to divide the hides behind the shoulder area. The front end of them is quite a bit thicker in my experience than the butt half. The front ends are darn sure tough to cut too!! Other than that they are great to work with. Up here there seems to be an abundance of buffalo so I get my hides at the right price(FREE!!!!) Quote
Members rawhide1 Posted September 30, 2007 Author Members Report Posted September 30, 2007 Thanks Elton for the replie. I work with a fella that raises them big critters so i'm thinkin I might give it a try. It will be a few months yet before he butchers them. But I should be able to get them cheap. And it will also be my first time trying to make rawhide so here's wishing for luck. Mike Quote
