I have reservations at the Econo Lodge on 5th St. Anybody ever stayed there? It's close to the show, but is this place a dive? I don't know, I'm askin'. Good places to eat? Places to avoid? Don Report post Posted October 5, 2007 You will have a great time at the show...like when you go to vegas, only bring a set amout of money and when it is gone your done...if not bring a trailer to bring all your new toys home. We always stay at the holiday inn (it has a great bar...not to say that is all i care about) so i don't know anything about the econ lodge, but i'm sure it is nice. I can't remember where we had dinner last year. We will have some saddles in the show...Open floral and beginner. My brother will have a few pair of boots in the show. Can't wait till next week! Go2Tex Report post Posted October 5, 2007 Well, I'm pre-registered to enter a saddle but mainly just going to pick up some stuff. Looking for a tree or 2. I ended up down here with only a couple trees and nothing on order. Now I'm looking at 3-4 months wait. Need some tools. Yeah, better set a limit. This could get expensive......... sheathmaker Report post Posted October 7, 2007 I have made every Boot and Saddle Maker's Round Up since they were held in the little building out by the air port in Burnett, TX. Then they moved to the larger venue in Brownwood, TX, and finally to their present site in Wichita, Falls. It is one of the very best shows I know of, short of Sheridan to see what's new and pick up or order supplies of all kinds. If any of you are in the market for a sewing machine, be sure to visit Artisan Sewing supplies booth. Jerry and Steve always have a super size display area with working machines for you to see and try. I'm anxious to see their new powered splitter. I hope it's far enough along in devlopement to be for sale. There will also be a ton of tools from various suppliers and makers from the highest quality down to average and import. Douglas Tools always has a huge selection of real vintage tools that just aren't available any more. It's a must for a new maker to visit and I guess just as important for the established and experienced maker. McBride Land and Cattle company on Scott St. very near the show site is a really good steack house. The hotel I've gooten used to started out as Holiday Inn, then it bacame the Remington, and now this years it's Howard Johnson. It's VERY close to the show. robert Report post Posted October 7, 2007 you guys are making me jealous... i used to run up to brownwood every year cause i have family there (made for a good excuse anyway...), and have been to WF a couple of times. I try to go on the cheap (leaves more money for tools!) so have never stayed anywhere except the la quinta or eaten anything but fast food... The LQ isnt too bad, but cant say i would recommend it over a high rent joint like the econolodge! i try to save up all my "wants" through the year and then buy them there... it is a great show for anyone close enough to get there. this year i opted to go to the ifolg show in fort worth - we will see how that goes...
