1508 bobbin tension spring

Recommended Posts

Hello & thank you for all for the information available on this terrific site. I recently replaced a worn Pfaff 1545 hi lift with a Juki 1508. The after the fact learned difference between the two is that there is no removable bobbin case in the 1508. The Pfaff bobbin fit into a case which then inserted into the hook assembly.  The case with the bobbin thread tension spring is easily adjusted on the Pfaff, not so on the 1508 where the tension spring is on the hook assembly and much harder to access.  Live and learn. I prefer the removable case as on the Pfaff, which leads to my question "is it possible to change 1508 to removable bobbin case?".

My two cents on positioning 1508 bobbin thread beneath the tension spring; make sure bobbin thread is counter clockwise when placed in the hook. When the thread exited the bobbin clockwise I found it challenging to place the thread beneath the spring.

When you thread the bobbincase put your right thumb nail on the tri-angle part of the hook & pull the bobbin thread in with your lefthand real low to the machine.Once the tension is set you can or should pretty much leave it alone.IF you really wanted to change to the Pfaff style bobbincase there is a way & a new hook with that style of bobbincase costs $250.00.
