Members Dragons Pearl Posted October 7, 2007 Members Report Posted October 7, 2007 I have a quick question about a sewing machine that my dad had. Its a Thompsons PW 200. I it has a walking foot on it, but don't have any other info on it. He used it for recovering seats for cars, bikes and boats. I wanted to know if anyone here would know if it would be good for leather. Mostly wallets, checkbook covers and such. Not gonna be doing holsters or anything like that yet. Maybe belts tho. Quote
Michael Sheldon Posted October 8, 2007 Report Posted October 8, 2007 Primarily, the Thompson units are sold as entry-level upholstery shop machines. For wallets and checkbook covers, it should be more than adequate. For belts, it will depend on the weight. The one thing you may want to do is run some test material through it first. On my PW400, the lower feed dogs were *sharp*, and could mar the finish of smooth leathers. If yours are this way, you may want to take a dremel emery wheel to them to dull them a little. Also make sure you have the proper needles for the job. There are many types of needles made in the size these machines take. Quote
Members Dragons Pearl Posted October 8, 2007 Author Members Report Posted October 8, 2007 Thanks for the info Michael, I will give it a try next time I go to my moms house then. I think he would be happy I am using it for stuff like that! Quote
