Selvune Report post Posted March 3, 2022 I have been practicing my cutting/stitching/etc, so today I thought I would try my skills at making a cigar case. I have everything cut, glued and stitched. Tomorrow I am going to burnish and then wet mold it, I hope
MtlBiker Report post Posted March 4, 2022 @Selvune - You're obviously more advanced than I am with this stuff... I thought I'd understood that wet molding was something that needed to be done before the stitching and burnishing. Would you please explain how you're going to go about it? I've only seen one video on YouTube where the case was just about completed (meaning stitched) without wet molding and then it was made wet and with fingers the leather was stretched out enough (slowly) to accept the item. Then it was allowed to dry with the item inserted. It looks like you've done a very nice job with the stitching. Are you using a pony to help?

From what I have watched, there are many different ways to do wet molding. Some with just water, some with oils and a few other ways. The way I am trying first is to measure everything out. Then glue, stitch and burnish. After doing that, you wet the leather and put the dowel rods into the bottom. once full dried, wet the leather for the lid and slide that over to fully dry.....finished product. No idea how it is going to turn out, but gotta try and see I did get a pony. I was trying hand stitching, but didn't go so well, so more practice there. I did order a higher quality thread which comes next week, so hoping to see how that looks Cheers
Selvune Report post Posted March 4, 2022 doing the wet molding today on the bottom and the top tomorrow. We shall see how it goes. Bad news, if the cigars measure 1" in diameter, it only fits 2 cigars.

But since you've already sewn the case together, how would you be able to wet mold the top and bottom separately?
Selvune Report post Posted March 4, 2022 oh, this is for a buddy. I am a former cigarette smoker and never took up cigars as I feared it would be a gateway drug back to cigarettes...plus they don't smell good. Now a pipe...maybe HA As for molding the top and bottom, I we the bottom and put in the dowel rods. Once dry, I will wet the top and put over the bottom with the rods still in it. I was worried about trying to slide wet leather over wet leather, especially with how tight it was doing when the leather was all dry.
