CustomDoug Report post Posted November 9, 2010 I have a Singer 29K62 that I'm about to start using, just waiting on a couple of items to show up first. I've ordered a treadle belt today and waiting for it. I have one bobbin in the machine and it looks small to me but have nothing else to compare it to. I just read that the 29K60 uses a large bobbin which was a surprise to me so I started second guessing which my "62" uses. Also, trying to figure out what else I may need right off the bat and came across a "Threading Wire" on ebay that one seller claims is necessary when using a class 29 machine... should I order one, and explain it's function if you don't mind. I can't figure it out - is it just an oversized loop threader like used on the small machines to get thread through the eye of the needle or what? Thanks ya'll. dirtclod Report post Posted November 9, 2010 The threading wire is used to push the thread down through the machine to where you can get ahold of it then you thread the needle. Someone correct me if I'm wrong please...just from looking at photos of the bobbins, the small have a slot that starts at the outer edge, while the large ones have a slot that starts on the inner hub.... the big one looks tiny to me as well when you compare with a modern home or industrial bobbin. Compared to the bobbin for my other industrial these are downright tiny. bobbins. I've got a29K 72 which is supposed to be big bobbin, the bobbins that came with it look like the big bobbins I've seen on ebay...the shuttle for big and small is available but a touch expensive (50 bucks). I've seen the wires for 5.00 each on ebay...of course then there's shipping. The best way I can describe them is as one of those cording gadgets with the eye that lets you thread cording through a casing, on the 29k you feed the thread down the needle bar which I assume is how this guy can sew 360 degrees.
