LW Info

  • Leatherwork Specialty
just starting out and have no specialty
  • Interested in learning about
how to do all types of leatherwork. I would really love to make motorcycle seats as my boyfriend's hobby is to restore old bikes.
  • How did you find leatherworker.net?

  1. Am making gun case for son and don't want to line with sheep skin. Can't seem to find a padded fabric to line with or am not searching for right item. Any suggestions? Thank Dawn
  2. Loved the koi. Wonderful for just starting. You can check out granite stores for free slabs of granite. I was searching for something else entirely and lucked up on a couple of nice size pieces of granite in a give-away pile. Also, as you are adding to your tools, be sure to keep an eye on ebay. People get rid of bulk stamps and other tools quite often.
  3. Bearman, Love your work. Just noticed that you are from Panama. I am two counties over near Apalachicola. Do you do this at a shop or just a hobby? Dawn
  4. Thanks Troy. I am sure that Kydex is what I was looking for. I have heard of it before but could not remember the name.
  5. Great job! I love the first picture that has the matching saddlebags. What did you use so that the bags will hold their forms?
  6. I am in the process of making a new seat for my motorcycle (first time making a seat). I want to make saddlebags to match. What would be the best product to use to be sure that the bags hold their shape? Would I need to sew the stiffner into the bags same as I would a lining? Thanks, Dawn
  7. Okay Ed. I want to be adopted. You can't show favoritism and I want one just like this one. I have only been tooling for a year and you are now my hero!
  8. Bearman, I am new at tooling the leather and am trying to figure out what method you use when you outlined the carving on your eyeglasses cases. Is your leather wet? When I use the dyes, I get a very definite color change. Your's seems to have a soft transition from one color to the other. Thanks, Dawn
