Stitching Troubleshooting?

Recommended Posts

I'm kind of a newbie to leatherworking...

I am currently using waxed braided cord, regular stitching needles, and I have both a chisel punch and a round hole punch, but can't figure out which one to use.

When I use the chisel punch the sewing looks cleaner, but it's hard to get the needle through the second time. I'm also having issues with the knots that I tie when I finish stitching coming loose(i tied a double knot).

I don't really know if I'm doing this right or not! someone please correct me/give me tips.

Use the chisel punch for most sewing. Loose the big eye needles and get harness needles, a lot stronger. Normally you do not need to tie knots, you backstitch 3 stitches. I pull my needles with pliers all the time, to me tighter is better.

I hand sew exclusively and second what Aaron said. -- Tex
