  1. Curious how your recovery is going. All the best!

  2. Here's the question, if you could only get one book on leather carving , which one would you suggest? As a person on a fixed income( closer to broken),I really have to watch what I spend. I'm looking for a book that will tell me step by step how to carve leather. I realize there's alot of cat-skinners out there but a guys gotta start somewhere so I'm asking where's the best place. Thanks in advance for any advice, Greg
  3. I just finished a belt fitting this description, the inside layer being nylon. Similar to a military style belt, only stiffer.Kevlar may have been more durable, or not. I fully expect this article to last the rest of my life;and I'm reasonably young. If you still need a craftsman to assemble your belts just let me know.
  4. As a cancer suvivor pushing 50, my odds at a"normal" job seem kinda bleak. I'm getting ssi so we're ok for now. Thanks to a couple of exceptional strangers I'm hooked on this leather thing. I can make most things I try to but carving is another story. I'm sure with a LOT of practice , maybe I could trick somebody into thinking I knew what I was doing. My question is this ; is it likely that a guy could make a living doing this stuff? I know some of you Texans can but I live up here in Indiana. Not many cowboys... Just kiddin guys, truth is I'm jealous of your country. What I've seen looks real nice. Are there many of you that are in internet sales? How do you drum up buisness? I know the questions are kinda vague , just kinda putting out feelers. Thanks in advance for any replys ,oh and if you see Ferg tell him I said thanks again, Greg Ditton

  10. Well I'm a week and a half into my bone-marrow transplant and for the most part it's gone pretty well. The hardest part has been having nothing to do. I brought my leather stuff but the doctors don't know if it's safe . So I sit and wait ,read a little and play on the computor. They keep me pretty well medicated so I sleep alot. Anyhow just a short update... THANKS FOR ALL THE PRAYERS GREG DITTON
  11. THE DOCTORS HAVEN'T GOT BACK TO ME ABOUT MY BONE MARROW TRANSPLANT YET SO BEFORE THEY DO I'M LOOKING FOR A TEACHER IN THE CENTRAL IN AREA TO SHOW ME SOME THINGS. THANKS TO THE KINDNESS OF SOME FRIENDS I HAVENT MET YET I'M GOOD ON SUPPLIES. SOMEONE EVEN SENT ME A COUPLE OF VHS TAPES BUT I DONT HAVE A PLAYER . I'M INTERESTED IN MAKING ANYTHING OUT OF LEATHER. SO FAR I'VE MADE A HOLSTER , A QUIVER, A FEW SMALL POUCHES BUT WHAT I REALLY NEED IS A GOOD TEACHER.
  12. Ive been trying to figure out how to make the holes under the leaf ridges... tried a seeder nope . Is there a special tool?
  13. The other day I posted a note telling some of the things I have been going through with my cancer . Originally a fella from Ohio responded in a big way with a bunch of leather and supplies. I was amazed to say the least. I have never met this guy and he gave me 100$ worth of stuff.!! It kinda made me feel ashamed for asking for help. I really had'nt expected that much. Well I no sooner had the boxes thrown away than another person named Hilly sent me a message telling me to watch out for a package. Sure enough , this afternoon the ups guy pulls up again with another package!! More leather , more supplies ,more I can't believe it . Just when I think I got life figured out ; that it all just sucks, something like this happens and blows me away . Some total stranger comes along , goes way out of their way to help me out and asks nothing in return. Just tells me to do it for someone else when you can. How am I supposed to understand that?? Well here's what I do understand. There ARE good people left in this world. Usually they don't say much , their more the doer kind of folks Kinda off to the side a little out of the limelight.you might say.But they are there just the same and I thank God that He keeps making them cause when you need them , you really need them. And they come thru. THANK YOU FERG AND HILLY, MY TWO BEST FRIENDS. GREG DITTON
  14. When you have cancer you get needles almost without thinking about them . All the tests and stuff they make you do can make you feel pretty depressed alot of the time. They even gave me depression medicine. It can get a little nervewracking to say the least. The other day I posted a request for a little help. I was'nt really sure what to expect ,but in my position it was either sink or swim so I asked for help. I used to drive a semi truck for a living but when I got the cancer I lost that .So money has been real tight to say the least. Thats why I asked for help. This fella from Ohio responded in a BIG WAY .His name is Ferg . I've never met him before but I hope to soon He sent me tools and leather and books . He went above and beyond in a real big way . Sometimes with all the chemo treatments and my upcoming bone-marrow transplant and financial collapse brought on by the cancer , I get more than a little depressed. It's people like Ferg that keep me going. Sometimes when things get bad I'll do about anything to ease my frustration. Sometimes it seems pretty hopeless. Ferg gave me a fill-up on hope. To just say Thank you aint really enough. Its like putting a Chevette motor in a Caddilac. It just aint enough. If you see Ferg tell him Greg said thanks... In a caddilac kinda way.
  15. To Wildrose and Ferg ,Thanks for your help, Lord knows I need it. Of all the things I need; I would have to say instruction is what I need most. Any periodocals or how-to's would be greatly appreciated. THANKS AGAIN GREG DITTON 2615 S BLAINE ST. MUNCIE IN 47302
