Stirrup Purse

First project photos I've posted. Other than my rawhide dog chew maul. Somewhat fearful of the experts... But I like how it turned out. Made on spec for a lady whose maiden name is Bearpaw.

It looks good. You did a very nice job on back grounding the bear paws (inverse carving). I see a few minor things you can work on for the next one if you're interested.

Well, the only things that look 'off' to me are as follows:

The handles are REALLY thick - to the point that it looks a little off. If that was the intent, then by all means disregard my comment.

The other thing is the spacing of the lace from the edge. Most of the time, lacing is done closer to the edge so that the 'legs' blend into the edge work. Others may have a different preference, but I like to stay at a maximum of 1.5 x the width of the lace away from the edge. There's a lot of info already posted here on lacing, so I'll forego retyping it and ask that you spend some time reading in the appropriate forums.

I like the idea of the handles. I've never been a fan of the stirrups that require being carried by the drawstring.

I appreciate all the comments above. I wanted the handles thicker, because the purse is a bit bigger than the little ones I have seen before. I think I will go with a thinner leather, though with the second, inner layer. Compromise.

The braiding...I think I agree with the comment on spacing from the edge. I did it this way because other stirrups I have seen were like this... However, I think I like a neater edge. So, will change the spacing on the next one. For my wife.

This was a fun project, and raised my skills with the grommet setter (bought a good one), and with lacing (bought decent lace from Springfield).

I agree, the drawstrings on a purse really seemed like a uncomfortable and lazy way to finish it off. Drawstrings are for pouches, sweatpants, and hoods. Not a handbag.

I would personally do things a little differently, however it is a great idea.
