padding for a soft case

Recommended Posts

I was thinking of making a soft case, shaped more or less like a pool cue case, with two layers of leather. It occured to me to put a thin layer of foam rubber between the outer layer and the lining for added protection. How do you typically attach it? Glue? Stitiching at edges? some sort of cross-stitching?

Hi There Fishguy!

I'm in the making of a pair of flyfishing rodtubes and to get it rigid and round I'm using a plastic pvc tube inside. I have some very thin foam (the stuff you put under some flooringtiles) wich I will wrap around the plastic tube before sliding the leather on it. The leather will be laced together off the tube to be able to run the needle through wich could occur some fitting problems if my calculation is wrong (to much shrink from tooling etc) and heres the main reason for the foaming. If the leather is to snug I can remove the foam sheet, if it's to loose I can add more layers.

I thought I attach the first layer foam with some strips doublesided tape with good stickability against the pvc tube and then at top and bottom wrap some duct tape really tight around the foam. That way I can easily remove the foaming, but I hope not.

This link take you to the project. Not much has happen and I'm working slow with this. Deadline is a bit away.
