  1. Thanks Dirtclod. I appreciate your response. Anyone else have any advice?
  2. Hi good people I've a number of steel rule dies made by several die makers. They are the ones that have some kind of black or dark blue coating which seems to be standard with these kinds of dies. Regardless of who has made me these dies they start to rust within short time especially around the welding. I always keep my dies dry and clean and in a room with little moisture yet they develop rusty areas. I scrape it off and it always comes back. Can anyone tell me what to do about it because this rust and the rusted black coating sometimes gets on the leather no matter how much I clean it off. Any help? Thank you, Nyis
  3. Hi Folks, Thanks for your replies Hi Folks, Thanks for your replies. Michelle, so how do you actually go about sharpening the blade? Same as in this video? Thank you, Nyis
  4. Hi all, I found this video about how to sharpen a splitter blade on the internet a while ago. Well, I did what this person says to do when sharpening my splitter blade and I swear it is now duller then what it was in the first place. I've no idea what I've done wrong. Can any one please help me with the proper way to sharpen my splitter blade? Im about to throw this out the window. Thank you, Nyis
  5. Hi folks, I use a multi diamond hole punch tool and a chisel tool to make sewing holes. These are the kinds that make many holes at once. I use a mallet to whack the chisel or punch to make the sewing holes. After doing this all day some times for hours and hours I start getting tired I can make mistakes and if Im not careful the holes on the underside of the leather are too close to the edge because I whacked it at an angle and not straight. Do any of you have a solution for using these tools without having to use a mallet to whack every time so its not noisy and so the holes go in straight every time and not at an angle? Thanks so much! Nyis
  6. I was just looking into this attachment and really thinking of buying it. Got any photos of it on your machine or a video we can see? Would love to have a look. Thanks in advance. Nyis
  7. Thanks for your reply. I am glueing flesh to flesh (underside) together. I used both the white type of tandy glue and also the contact cement and neither holds it well. I have not roughed up the surface though. Are their particular glues I should be using? Thanks for your help. Nyis Thanks for your reply. I tried finding the video you were talking about without luck though. Cheers, Nyis
  8. Hi folks, Im having trouble with gluing chromexcel. I have glued pieces together in the same way I glue other leathers that bind together tightly, but this stuff just comes apart. The glue doesnt hold it. Anyone have any suggestions or glues that work well with chromexcel? Thanks in advance, Nyis
  9. Hi all, I found this photo on the internet. Im trying to figure out how to make something similar. Basically, I want to be able to sand my item on one side and then polish/burnish it on the other side. This looks like a bench grinder of some sort, or maybe this machine exists the way it is. So I would love to know from you all is how do I make it or where can I buy one thats like it. Actually, I know weaver leather has something sorta kinda similar, but i dont have the fund for that nor will that work for me here in Australia. So Id like to figure out how to make something like it. Thanks everyone, Nyis
  10. Hi Bruce, Thanks for the reply. It just seems kinda silly that there isnt a product out there that is not the size and weight of a house or rare as unicorns that can be purchased to accomodate this need. Obviously everything out there isnt made of veg tan. Hmmm. I just want to go to a website that has decent photos, that sells a READILY available machine that does exactly what we want and where I can see the price and hit that Buy Now button and have it sent to me asap. Lots of the splitters out there seem to be the kind you have to hunt for on websites that dont have photos or price or buy option. Its so crazy actually. I think you can sense my frustration. There are tons of things out there made of leather. Surely there are more people out there that have a huge need to split left and right. Ive been searching for MONTHS now for an answer and I just desperately want to throw all my money at it to be able to fix this problem as I think of it every day. Seriously. I have so much chrome tan leather sitting around that I wont use because I cant split it. So over it. I really wish there was a really good solution. Nyis
  11. Resurrecting this post. Anyone else successfully, regularly and consistently split chrome tanned leather with a pull through splitter like an osborne or other splitter? Id love to hear about it. Thanks all. Nyis
  12. Hi folks, I took notice of the 8" Weaver Heritage Skiver and it looks really good. Any of you own it or have tried it? What do you think of it. Looks like a very strong and sturdy machine with a decent blade. Would love to hear your thoughts. Thank you in advance, Nyis
  13. Hi folks, I often use chrome tan leather. When it comes time to make the sides look nice its challenging. Ive used Fiebings Edge Kote and Dura Edge and they still dry a bit stiff. I've seen many fine bags, wallets, etc with a rubbery kind of edge dressing. Does anyone know where I might be able to find something like it or something better than what Im using right now? Thanking you in advance. Kind regards, Nyis
  14. Hi everyone, I would like to purchase a splitter that will work well with chrome tanned leather. I often use 5-8 oz leather and would love to be able to split down to 3oz or less. Can you recommend some splitters that are under $1k perhaps that would work excellent with chrome tanned leather and that are easily sourced/found where I dont have to search the earth looking for one? Id make a purchase today if I found the right tool. Thanks for reading and grateful for your help and suggestions. Nyis
  15. Hi folks, Last year I purchased a Tandy Craftool Leather Splitter. THe cheaper one. That thing truly is a piece of rubbish. I use it to split leather often and what ends up happening is that it just splits WAY too thin or tearing the leather even though I have it set at splitting a bit thicker. Ive ruined so much leather. I often try to split a whole long strap of leather and somewhere half way through it it will actually split all the way and tear it in half. Im disgusted. You get what you pay for. Why does this happen with this machine? Ok. So I am ready to purchase a better splitter and am hoping to find something for under $1k that will easily and reliably split my leather without it going right through it and that I dont have to search all over the world to find. Id like a machine that is readily available and that will do the same job over and over. Please, please, please I look forward to your suggestions. I split veg tan leather that is 5-6 oz down to 3 oz mostly. Please help. Desperately, NYIS
  16. Hello JJ, Thanks for replying. I dont see them available on their website which is why I am asking here on the forum. Anyone know where else? Thanks heaps. Nyis
  17. Hello folks, Does anyone know where I can purchase a Tandy Craftool high tech splitter replacement blade or who might make one similar to it? Thanks very much, Nyis
  18. Hi Bruce, I had a look at your site and found the section, but there are so many. I have no idea which is which. ? Which ones are they in particular? I've only ever owned the tandy ones so dont know what sizes all those are on your site.
  19. Ive contacted Rons tools a couple of times now via email with no response. I cant really call them either because of the time difference between both countries. Anyone know where else I can get some? Thanks so much.
  20. Hiya Bruce, Still have those? Im interested. Can you tell me more about them. Thanks so much!!
  21. Thanks twin oaks, but I can't see myself making one. Anyone else know where u can get a smaller edge beveler than the number 1 tandy edge beveler I have? Surely someone makes a smelt one? That last line was supposed to say "surely someone makes a smaller one".
  22. Hi everyone, I have a few tandy edge bevelers and the smallest I have and have seen is the size 1. Are there any bevelers smaller than this that anyone knows of? It doesnt matter if they cost more, I'd like to make some finer/thinner/smaller beveling than this one can provide. Thanks for your help. Jenna
  23. Oh thats great. I will contact those Texas folks then. As far as Lucris, I absolutely do not recommend those people for anything at all. Absolutely dreadful to work with and completely unhelpful. I have never encountered another vendor who I nearly had to beg to purchase something from and get any civil response from. I absolutely hate that I have given them any business. He is beyond rude and completely unhelpful. A few other leather workers I know feel the same way. I have no idea why some people make it so friggin hard to do business with them. No idea. I dont know how they stay in business. But Ill try the Texas folks. Cheers.
  24. Hello everyone, Will you please recommend some of the best makers of leather clicker dies? I live in Australia and would be happy with either a local or anywhere else on the planet as long as they are really good. I recently found a local here who everyone in town recommends, but I find him incredibly difficult to work with, too expensive and unbelievably the dies area always crooked, or not even or aligned and they have to keep being redone. Im so unhappy and I'm really over this experience, but don't know where else to go. I desperately need excellent quality, perfect alignment and no crookedness. Thanks for your help and suggestions Nyis
  25. Hello good people, I am in search of some good quality custom stamps for my logo with a maker in which is easily accessible via email, website, etc. Im looking for the metal looking ones please. Also, Id love to be able to use it with a branding iron if possible as well. Is this possible? I live in Australia and we have a different voltage situation here so I cannot buy any of the branding irons i see on the internet. I wonder if I could just buy one anyway and just use an adaptor that will allow me to use it here in Australia. Or might that be a fire risk? Thank you all for your help and I look forward to your recommendations. Nyis
