  1. "Dark Ages" is used to describe regressions in cultures world wide; so dates and meanings change depending on the region in discussion. Assuming Raven is revering to the region of Europe, the Dark Ages ran roughly from the year 500 to the year 1400. Starting at the collapse of the Western Roman Empire and ending with the start of the Renaissance; a period of about 900 years.
  2. Fonts are normally .TTF, .FON, or .TTC files, backing them up is as easy as copying them from your computers font folder and pasting them in another location. Your computer will only be able to use the file if it's in the font folder. I have never come across any font that has had DRM or any other form of digital copy protection. If LetterheadFonts.com uses some kind of copy protection they will probably list that somewhere on there site, if not you can always give them a call to be sure. As far as my experiance fonts are only protected by copyright law. Good spot for some freebees: http://www.1001freefonts.com/
  3. I've been using Quicken Home and Business for about a year now; it's nothing to write home about, but I haven't had a need to find anything better. I still use custom forms for invoicing, so I can't speak for how well it handles that stuff. It does make Tax time much easier providing that you're also using the same brand of Tax software.
  4. I love the quality and detail of this journal. A few things catch my eye from a design stand point. You have a lot of structure and symmetry going on, which could be pushed a little further. 1. I almost expect to see the same quality and TLC along the sides as you made on the spine. The same dark tones and corner patterns would really frame your center pieces. 2. The back cover seems like it wasn't given the same TLC as the front. Quick idea solution: Make the text appear to be on a scroll, part of a tree, stone, or any number of things that you can imagine. Darken the area around it as done on the front cover and you're done. This would balance your design and play off of the symmetrical elements in the overall layout and the asymmetrical design of the tree on the cover. 3. If you really wanted to go overboard, you could cut and weave the strap closures to resemble the roots of the tree. Looking forward to seeing what else you come up with, good stuff man.
  5. First you need to decide what type of website you want. Is it going to be a showcase for your work, a contact page, a store, email, or everything and anything. If you're making a store page you're going to want a host that is going to provide you with good: storage, bandwidth, security, databases compatibility and stability. Storage: Unlimited. Lets you use as many pictures, text, products, and video that you can dream up Limited. Pay $ for x amount of space Bandwidth: Unlimited. Let's 1 person or 7 billion people visit your site as often as they like Limited. Pay $ for x amount of data transfer. After you use up your available monthly bandwidth your site is shut off until the new month, or you're charged for the amount that you go over. Security: SSL = Secure Sockets Layer. You need SSL if you want to sell stuff on the web and keep customer information safe. Most of these will require that you get a Unique IP address for your web server. Database: Databases are essential for e-commerce sites, unless you sell via paypal or the like Stable: Picking a stable host insures that your website works when someone goes to it;) I use www.dreamhost.com for all of my sites and for my clients. If you have a specific question about hosting or dealing with a webdesign person/firm feel free to PM me. Take your time and do some research. Hosting prices barely change year to year. If you see any kind of sale or "Buy before it's too late" type thing, chances are it's just a sales tactic and not a deal.
