  1. I have a Boss that is approximately 10 years old. I purchased two Cobra machines and no longer use the Boss. Looking for $800. I am located in Rancho Cucamonga, CA and would prefer not to ship. I also work in Carson, CA and could bring it there if that helps.
  2. Yes I do, there is everything from 12 x 12 to 4' x 8' you can call me direct at 909-239-2394 if you are interested. Jim
  3. I'll take them both. How do you want payment.
  4. I just wanted to say thanks to Rob at RMB. My wife ordered some guns from him for me as a Christmas Gift. She told me that Rob really went out of his way to get them to her in time as some of the ones she ordered were out of stock. Rob expedited the shipping and I got my guns. Thank you Rob and I look forward to buying from you again. Jim
  5. Thanks for the info, Who do you recommend for a supplier? I have not seen any of those at Tandy
  6. I am having some issues with beveling the inside of the belt slots on my holster. When I try to get into the tight radius, the beveler mars up the leather. I am currentelly using Tandy bevellers. Any suggestions on either a better beveler, or better technique. Thanks,
  7. I glad it worked out for you. Send me a photo of the finished bench when you get it done. Jim
  8. I think I will try the Hot water next and see what that does for me, but not to Hot. Once, I tried to soak the leather in Black tea before a vinegron bath. I guess I was a little anxious and did not let the Tea cool enough. It was like a shrinky dink, the leather shrank up it 1/4 of the original size. It was about 2 minutes after boiling the Tea. Lesson learned. Any idea on where to get 2 inch rubber for a better price? Thanks for the help.
  9. Yep, you are right they are 1 inch. Cool, looks like I am one the right track then.
  10. You have the type of forming that I am looking for around the edges. I will keep trying to increase pressure. How wet is your leather when you are forming it. Mine was wet, then set to dry until it dry to the touch but still cold and very flexible.
  11. Okay, here are a few photos of what I did the night before last. One is before any pressing and the other is after pressing. The last, is the holster in the press to try to show the force. I did not put alot of pressure on it, just untill it got tight. I am only using 1/2 inch rubber on top and bottom. Another possible issue is that my top steel plate is not mounted to the ram. I am not sure if this is good, bad or does not matter. Thanks for the input, Jim I am suprised they did not give more detail, guess it is a case of CYA. Thanks for looking into it for me, i appreciate it!.
  12. Dwight, I understand what you mean about the detail, I have been using a vaccumm press for a while now and I do the boning after it is out. What I am looking at is when i vaccumm mold, the leather will for suck up around the gun more around the slide, frame and trigger. I want the same from the press, I am just very concerned about over doing it. I saw one post that they really put alot of tension on the press, for both blue and real guns. I am just worried about over doing it. 12 tons sounds like a lot of pressure. i will make another holster tonight and post some progress photos tomorrow. Jim
  13. Thanks Rob, i would very much like to know what Blue Guns says also. I got the guns from you last week and just picked up the press (on Sale) Friday. Anxious to get started.
  14. Good afternoon all. I just got a new press from HF. It is a 12 ton machine. I ordered 2 pieces of gum rubber in a 40 hardness. (they had a 40 hardness in three different scales, I got medium soft. I hope it is the right stuff, $76 each.). I got it setup last night and took some wet leather and a blue gun and pressed it together, just to see what it would do. It was just two scraps, not sewn together. I put it down snug, but there was not really any significant tension in the jack handle. About the same you could do with just your hand on the bottle neck pump with out the handle. The inside of the leather took a really good inpression of the gun, down to the lettering, etc. The outside on the other hand barely showed any detail at all. My question is, how much pressure should I be using. Even though they are just molds, the blue guns are still $50 each. I would hate to smash one. Any insight into these machines would be much appreciated. Thanks.
  15. Hey Chris, Unfortunately I do have to work weekends, but that won't start until next month or so. normally we are a 9-5 m-f shop, but we gear up for the holiday season. I do have a couple of good slabs that would do a full bench. Just remember, they are HEAVY!!! An estimated 500-600 lbs each. Or you could get a couple of the smaller slaps and piece them together. I can have a forklift available to help you load it, but you will still need two guys when you come by. Let me know when you do the tutoring, I might like to get into one of the classes. By the way, I love your burnishers, use it almost every night. Jim
  16. Hello everyone, I work in warehouseing and one of our customers used to store granite slabs with us. These came in really cheap frames and occasionally the frames would break. So, I ended up with a whole mess of partial slabs. I have used one for myself for my bench, but I do not need 1000 more. Obviously, they are not cut square, but I cut mine with a wet saw with no problem. I have pieces from 1 x 1 to some that are large enough you could redue your whole work bench (maybe your kitchen also). If anyone is interested, they are located in Carson, CA. As I said, they are free, you just need to pick them up. Anything from one to all. There is white, brown, black, and green. This is a photo of alittle bit of it. You can reach me at (909) 239-2394. Jim
  17. Thanks Wizcrafts, I will give Steve a call and see what he thinks. I will try the belt tonight to see what happens. Yes, the motor is the digital model. Thanks again, Jim
  18. Hi All, I have a Cobra model 17 that will sometimes start out with a really fast stitch speed and then slow to normal. I barely touch the pedal and slowly move it down then BAM! we are off and running. This will last about three to five stitches or so by the time I get my foot off the pedal (it is moving fast). Then when I try it again, it starts normal. It usually happens on the first stitch after I turn on the machine, but not always. Somedays it starts normal and I have no problems with it. I have the speed set to the lowest level. It seems to be happening less frequently now that I have been using it more, but I am still nervous for that first rush, (images of Christine come to mind, pulling my hand into the needle my fingers permanetly attached to 4 ounce leather). Is this something that I may be doing, or could this be a servo issue. I have only had this machine for about two months now. I have a Cobra 4 that this has never been an issue with. Other than that, once we are going it sews great. Any insight would be appreciated.
  19. I am meeting with someone that is interested in having me make belts for his online clothing store. I think what he is looking for is beyond my ability at this time so I thought someone here might be interested. I have very little details at this point other than they want custom designs and high quality. If any of you specialize in belts, please let me know. I think we are meeting this weekend. I would like to have a contact to give to him by then.
  20. I made mine from a reclaimed bowling alley. It took some work but ended up looking great. Three inch thick rock maple, 42 inches wide by 8 feet. I will try to take some photos for you. Total cost was $88.
  21. Okay, finally got the pictures. After looking at it on the saddle, I think next time I will make the hole smaller and add a slot cut to get it over the horn. I donated these two to my riding club for a raffle this last weekend for their Equine rescue team. Got some nice comments and interest. Of course both of these were won by my friend who does not even have a horse... I guess I am not gonna see these riding around town. The dots on the large bag came out when I pressed the leather into the mold. I really like the look in person, in the photos it looks more like I missed with the dye. Please feel free to critique my work. It is the only way I will get better. Thanks, Jim
  22. Thanks for the welcome guys, I meant to take some photos last night, but after I spilled a bottle of super sheen all over myself I got side tracked. I will get some taken tonight and post them tomorrow. I actually do have Bob Parks tutorial printed out in my shop. I look at his edge and then mine and keep striving for that look.
