  1. Eric, On a different note I would like to ask your opinion on something. I've been wanting to get into the 1911 models with holsters. Can you give me any advice on what style or size of dummy gun to start with? I know that there is so many models, sizes, and styles and some that even work with each other but I'm not familar with any. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.. Gary
  2. Thanks for the advice Eric, I'm taking in all in and will be moving forward with it.. Gary Thanks..
  3. Well I guess if others aren't interested in the Kahr line of holsters I'll stay away from making them. The EMP 9mm is sure a nice looking gun! Checking out your website you build some really nice holsters! With that being said I really appreciate the feedback on my holsters from a man that does the work you do. I hope to some day create and form my own website. It's really hard to compete with the cheaper priced (and made) holsters that are available on eBay. Gary
  4. I occasionally dip dye after sanding and stitching the holster before molding with no big issues. Does take a little more work when molding.
  5. Thanks for the comment. I actually made the holster for the Kahr for myself because I had just recently purchased one. But as with most I end up wanting to do something different or better so I decided to sell it and am in the process of building another. This will be the first holster I've made for a Kahr and wanted to see if people would be interested. I really like the Kahr models as a CCW and thought others might as well. Most all my other holsters have been for the Glock models because of the dummy guns I have on hand.
  6. Hello Everyone, I'm fairly new on the forum and have been asking and using the advice from other members on gunleather and sewing. I've been selling my holsters on eBay for a couple of years now and thought I'd post a couple of photos to see what others think about them. Holsters are a hobby at this time but hope to expand later on down the line when I don't have to work full time for someone else. After a lot of research and advice from forum members I purchased a Cobra Class 4 stitching machine a few months back which made life much easier. I'm a one man operation that has found something in the last couple of years that I just absolutely love to do. Let me know what you guys think. All and any advice or comments are welcome. Thanks.. Gary (Betz Gunleather)
  7. I'm purchasing an aluminum replacement put will try the alumimum tape on the undersized G26 so it can be used also. Thanks for the help...
  8. I've been building holsters for all the Glock models for a couple of years and would like to expand into the 1911 models. With all of the different 1911 models and styles I'm looking for some advice on what model of dummy gun I might start out with. I know that some can be used with others but would like a starting point. Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated. Gary
  9. I completely agree but did receive three comments in a row from customers of their holsters being a little too tight. One guy was really nasty about it. They were all solved by placing their guns in a bag and leaving a day or two. What's really strange is when I insert the Blue gun in the finished holster it is very loose compared to the real gun. I of course don't want to send a customer a holster that is too loose like you said.
  10. I also dip dye after wet forming and have used the plastic bag with the gun overnight process. It does help. I'll try the paste wax next time. It's just really strange that I can insert the Ring dummy gun in the finished holster and it is much looser than using my actual gun of the same model. I really didn't start looking into this until I received three complaints in a row about the tightness of the holster. Thanks for the information.
  11. Wondering if anyone has ran into this before. I've been using Ring blue guns for wet molding gun holsters for almost two years. I've noticed after a couple of holsters being tight that the blue gun that I've been using for the Glock 26 is smaller than my real Glock 26. The blue gun fits fairly loose in the holsters but the real gun is too tight. Do these plastic models wear after time or has it always been like that I just didn't notice it. I'm going to purchase an aluminum one for now but still have a couple of other blue guns that I use an am wondering if I'm going to run into the same issue with the different models. Any advice, remarks, or experience on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Gary
  12. I'm also a hobbiest building gun holsters and a begginer at sewing machines. I sew from 6 oz to 9 oz leather in my work and decided on the Cobra Class 4 from The Leather Machine Company a few months back. It cost me a little more than the $2000 that you stated but I have never looked back. With a little trial and error, and a few calls to Steve their rep and machine expert it has all panned out. I highly recommend their equipment and customer service.
  13. Excellent job! I've got to admit my first holster was not near the perfection as yours! Very nice stitching. Designed well.
  14. Thanks for the reply and advice.. Thanks for the help. I think I'll get a hole punch and start there. Gary
  15. Wondering how most cut the belt slots in gun holsters. I have been using a knife and a sanding drum on a Dremel. Works okay but is time consuming. Do punching slots with a punch work very well? Do they make any impressions on the outside of the slot when finished? All advice is appreciated. Thanks.. Gary
  16. I've got to admit that Steve is always willing to help when needed. I've had my Cobra 4 for about a month now and of course had a lot of questions and concerns at first. By the way, I'm really enjoying the machine! He has always been there to answer my questions and help me out. I'm sure he will remember my name for years to come with all of the calls with questions I've had. Thanks for the patience Steve.. Gary
  17. Wondering if there is a norm on stitches per inch used for holsters using both 277 and 207 thread size with a machine. I usually use 6 to 7 but have seen less.
  18. Thanks for the advice Steve to both you and Luke. Can't wait to receive the burnisher. Gary
  19. Thanks Luke. Makes sense. Gary
  20. I just received my Cobra Class 4 a couple of weeks ago. Love the machine but still trying to figure it out. I've been hand stitching for over a year and went to a machine to save time. When I clip the thread after sewing it will unravel at times leaving a hole from the thread. I guess I'm clipping the knot that holds it together? What do others do to prevent this? Back stitch a couple of times, burn the thread, tie a knot, etc. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
