  1. Thanks for the input. Have a great Thanksgiving holiday to all..
  2. Good Morning all, I am fairly new to the leathercrafting world and am slowly purchasing materials as I go. Over the weekend I purchased a 2' X 2' polished granite cutoff from a local countertop dealer for $10.00. In reading this forum, I have seen various recommendations for this type of material as to thickness, size, etc. The cutoff I purchsed is only 1 1/4 inch thick. My concern is whether this will hold up to the pounding from stamping and if there a way to reinforce the slab from the backside to help provide strength to the slab for stamping work and the kind if it's even a concern. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks for sharing. This is a great forum to learn from.
  3. I see. Makes sense how you all explained it. Thanks.
  4. Good Morning. Please forgive my ignorance here as I am very new to leather crafting but I thought all carving methods were the same. What is the diffenence between "normal" carving and finger carving? Thanks.
  5. That's a great idea and the price is right on the piece of slate. Thanks again to all that have offer their responses. The more I learn about leather carving and stamping, the more I am really starting to enjoy it.

  7. Good Afternoon all, I have the opportunity to get a piece of broken pool table slate approximatly 2' X 3' cheap. Is this material okay for stamping of should I look for a piece of granite? Will the slate affect the leather by "rubbing off" on it? Thanks.
  8. Thanks very much for the encouragement. I look forward to learning and growing in this great craft. Thanks again.
  9. Hello to all. I have been interested in leatherworking for some time and have been following this board about everyday. The knowledge and willingness of those experianced in this craft on this board is amazing. I have never done a stich of anything with leather to this point. I bought the big Tandy kit and am going to attend free classes at the Tandy store saturday mornings. I am looking forward to learning and hopefully meeting some of you in the future. Thanks in advance for all the help you will provide and maybe not even know it. Because of your willingness to help other learn, folks like me can learn a truely fun and creative art. Thanks again.
