  1. Thanks for the reply. I am making plier sheaths, knife sheaths etc. Fishing gear stuff. I will try your recommendation
  2. I am making leather items that will be subjected to salt water. Should I seal the flesh side? And if so with what? I have been using Latigo, would some of the oily leathers be better? I left a sheath out in the rain and the next day it seemed to have a black mold on it. Not sure and it would not brush off. Tab
  3. AM NOT SURE THAT THER IS ANY LEATHER FOR SALT WATER. WATER WILL MAKE LEATHER PLYABLE. AM NOT OF WHAT EFFECTS SALT WILL HAVE ON IT. USE A SAMPLE PIECE IS YOUR BEST SOURCE IN ANSWERING YOUR QUESTION

    GADDABOUT.

  4. What is the best leather for being around salt water

Fish leather, I'd imagine. Some Northwest Indians used it a lot, from shark and gar especially.

Thanks! What about latigo or oil tanned. This is for plier sheaths etc.

Oiltanned might work, for a time.

Not sure about this as I don't live very close to salt water.
