    I am making leather items that will be subjected to salt water. Should I seal the flesh side? And if so with what? I have been using Latigo, would some of the oily leathers be better? I left a sheath out in the rain and the next day it seemed to have a black mold on it. Not sure and it would not brush off. Tab

    What is the best leather for being around salt water

      Fish leather, I'd imagine. Some Northwest Indians used it a lot, from shark and gar especially.

      Thanks! What about latigo or oil tanned. This is for plier sheaths etc.

      Oiltanned might work, for a time.

      Not sure about this as I don't live very close to salt water.
