Hey Everyone, Thanks for the responses! I am sewing mostly wallets, belts, bags that sorta thing. Possibly a holster or knife sheath here and there. I like the ones with the cylinder arms rather than the flat bed machines. I would say that the absolute most I would ever sew is two, possibly 3 layers of 8/9 oz veg tan. (and that would be pretty rare). Also, I have about 1600 bucks, but around 2000 is my limit for right now. @Jlsleather, I would love to find a good used one, but Texas would be way to far for me to travel to get one, I live in NC. @Wizcrafts, Does the CB3200 have something similar to the servo motor on the techsew? That is one thing that I really liked when looking into machines. Thanks

Hi All! Ok, I am finally in the market to get my first sewing machine. I have saved around 1600 bucks, and done some research. I am leaning toward saving a little more and getting a techsew 3650HD machine. I realize that this may be more machine than I actually need, but I'd rather have to much than not enough. Are there any other machines I should know about, or anything I should take into consideration.

I am having some problems figuring out the size I should make a belt when I just have someones pants size. If anyone has any pointers, they would be greatly appreciated.

Is there a specific type of leather that I should use for dog collars and harnesses? Can Veg tanned, tooling leather be used? I had a conversation with an older leatherworker, and he suggested that I could not use veg tanned, tooling leather.

I found a couple different "Distressed" look items, that I would like to try and reproduce the look of the item, and cannot figure out exactly how to do that. If some one has an Idea, I would be really apreciative. They look lik they may be two different, but similiar, techniques. Again, any help would be appreciated.

Just wondering on average how many 1 1/2 Straps I can expect out of the different cuts of leather (ie. sides, shoulder, backs, etc.) Also, I have been getting 7/8 ounce leather for belts, but have been thinking that maybe 9/10 ounce might be a little better, just wondering people opinions.
