    Warts & All

From my very first project to my latest. I might as well show the progression from beginner to whatever.
  2. From the album: Warts & All

This is my 3 rd one and I like making these but I'm gonna try something different after this one is finished. Not sure what though.
  3. From the album: Warts & All

I had to retro fit a loop to hold the belt part in place. This is my second one of these I made and I made way more mistakes this time (very time consuming mistakes to correct). But I loved the process!
  4. From the album: Warts & All

Father's day gift for dad. I screwed up the elastic bands that hold it and had to re-stitch (by hand). I won't make that mistake again.
  5. From the album: Warts & All

I lined it with felt originally but glue seeped through so I took it off and lined it with some scrap I had. The hand stitching was a pain (literally). Need to invest in a thimble.
  6. From the album: Warts & All

Front cover of the E-reader I made this weekend. I'm pretty happy with it but I'm happier that I learned a lot. I can't wait to make another one!
  7. Thanks, Johanna! I would've noticed sooner but I have an innate ability to not see things that are right in front of my face!
  8. Fantastic - I now have proper edges! Thanks Bob!!

    Saddle Soap

Great, thanks Cyber! And Mike - my girlfriend isn't a French model, she's a Swedish model. Yeah, Swedish - that's it...

    Saddle Soap

Oh, it wasn't here, Cheryl. Just on the most reliable source ever - the internet! Some talk of the ph level of it and how it degrades fibres - especially when used to try and restore and clean old leather. And you reminded me of another question - edges seem to be a tricky thing and so far I've just been sanding, wetting, buffing, waxing, then buffing again my edges (all by hand). At what step would you apply saddle soap? and what function does that serve? And thanks!!

    Saddle Soap

Hey all, I have a tin of Feibing's Saddle Soap (can't remember why I bought it but probably because buying stuff is half the fun for a newbie). Anyway, I have read alot of articles on how saddle soap has a tendency to harm leather. My question is, when and why would I use saddle soap? Is it only harmful to already sealed leather or veg tanned leather? Should I just throw it out? Thanks, Wink

    wallet

From the album: Warts & All

I made this for myself (from a Tandy Kit) with a pattern from an old Al Stohlman book I got from my Dad. I'm not overly happy with the carving but I love what happened with the color. I combined Eco Flo Bordeaux with black and it came out with almost a purple hue to it. I've been having difficulty duplicating that. BTW, I'm realistic about where I'm at as far as skill level goes but I see a bit of improvement every time I do something so that makes me happy!

    BVBwristcuff

From the album: Warts & All

After a couple false starts, this is my first construction from scratch for me. A simple wrist cuff made for a friends niece. I'm not familiar with the band but I did like their logo. Anyway, it was fun to make and I'll probably make a million more!
  14. In case the PM got missed, I respectfully request access to the adult section. Thanks Mistr...wait, sorry - I got carried away!
  15. Okay, this is brilliant.
  16. I inherited my Dad's stuff and I remember he took great care with the lacing so I understand the relationship between lacing and the leather. I'm slightly leary of posting pics because of the relatively poor quality of the stamping, carving and dying job. But I also realize that I should only be looking for improvement, not perfection! Plus it's my first "thing" so, there ya go. Also, that's some nice stitchin' there, Chief.
  17. Awesome! Thanks Chief, I'll try that out today!! EDIT - Hey, between your's and George's help, I got it! Thanks a lot! It turns out I was letting the needle go into the loop and creating a knot (if that makes sense) and I kept rotating the lace instead of keeping it flat and straight. Thanks a lot guys!
  18. Sorry Beav, I don't have photographic capabilities right now (and probably won't until Monday - long story). I suppose I was kinda hoping the lacing would come fairly easy but alas, it hasn't. I understand a little better about the variables involved and if I'm still having problems come next week, I'll gladly post and see if one of you fine folk could help me. Maybe it's also the stress of our NHL team and new arena situation that's getting me all worked up? Maybe if we lose the Oil, I'll start cheering for the Flames! Thanks!
  19. I'm just trying to lace my first project with a double loop stitch and it's not coming to me very easily. I've checked out Mr. Hurst's video and another but I just can't get the lace to look right after 4 or 5 stitches. I am getting better at it with each try so I know I'll get it eventually, it's just frustrating and I can't quite pinpoint exactly where I'm going wrong. I guess I'm venting more than asking a question. I'm gonna go home and whip up a makeshift stitching pony too to see if that helps. K, time for a coffee and a break... Wink
  20. Thanks for the tips, guys. I went and bought a can of the 3M - 77 and will do a test run or two tonight. @Cyberthrasher - yeah, I thought stitching the fabric might be best but wasn't sure - thanks for the reassurance!
  21. I forgot to use search function!, Thanks, it's been awhile since I been here and I panicked! - Oh, and thank you!
  22. Hiya folks! I apologize because I know I saw a thread like this a long time ago and I'll be darned if I can find it again. Anyway, I'm making a biker wallet from a Tandy kit (my first real project) and I've done the dying and carving and I'm ready to stitch it together. I just realized that a fabric lining would go nice and I remembered a discussion about whether you could us an adhesive to get in on there. I understand that sewing it in would be better but I don't believe I have the skill or the patience to try that yet. So would contact cement work or should I not bother and leave it au naturale? \ Thanks, Wink

    Ugh...

From the album: Warts & All

Second attempt at my first leather thing. Scrap leather, no stain (except maybe coffee), no finnish. It can only get better from here, right?
