  1. What items are you working on now or planning out for the big Christmas push that you see to be trending? Do you go for volume or margin this time of year?
  2. How do I create soft, supple oiled harness tack? I love the feel of reins and headstalls. I just picked up a headstall and it was made from 16 oz leather. Is there a company that sells factory oiled sides or how do I get that oiled look and feel from regular harness leather? Thanks!
  3. Thank you greatly for the reply and advice on the dirt. Never considered that right away. I will defiantly consider before taking on jobs.
  4. I finally acquired my very own sewing machine. I have some bell boots that need new Velcro strips. I was wondering if anyone had a good lead on where I can source heavy duty Velcro to sew on. Thanks, Chad

  6. Very nice. What oz leathers are you using?
  7. These are a set of last minute nosebands that were given to our rodeo queens.
  8. What oz. leather are you using for the noseband?
  9. So just to give y'all a laugh, I saved the lace butt joint pdf on a flash drive and my girlfriend opened it up the other day. The title was only lace butt joint. I got the worst look and had to do a lot of explaining fast.
  10. I started toying around in making bronc halter nosebands. The ones I have been making are just simple with only stamping. I was wondering what the best thing to line the back of the noseband is for when I want to add some bling. I was thinking latigo leather. Chad
  11. Thanks for the tips! I think I will try the lace butt joint.
  12. I am thinking about basically making a circle from a 4 wide strap and I want to attach it together by butting the two opposite sides together. I know that I can use a curved awl and curved needles with a saddle stitch, but I was was wondering if anyone has a good way to use lace and be able to cover the seem. The only lace examples I have seen are for attaching two pieces flat together. This piece will be wrapped tight around a round object and I think a lace would look nice. Thanks, Chad
  13. Bob, first off thank you very much for sharing your knowledge and taking the time to respond to all of us. I saw that you apply your finish before you burnish so the saddle soap doesn't discolor the leather. I was wondering what your steps are when antiquing and edging Before I have been finishing my edge the finishing but I don't want to stain my leather with the soap.
  14. Thank you both for the advice. I will be purchasing both. I have already been admiring Bob's work. Can't wait to get his advice too.
  15. Thank you so much! These are amazing.
  16. Hey y'all. I've only done a few projects and these have only been basket stamps. I really would like to learn to carve and I want to learn Sheridan style to begin with. I was wondering what would be the best book to purchase to learn this. I know there are "how to carve" books out there but I would like to know how to design and make the entire layout for say a large area project. The books may already cover this, but I want to be sure. I want to be able to make one of a kind works instead of being limited to tracing a specific sized pattern from someone else and not be able to change it. I'm sure this has already been covered somewhere, but I haven't been able to find much yet. Any advice is greatly appreciated and thank you to everyone who has already shared their knowledge on here. It has really opened my eyes to the correct way of leather crafting.
  17. I about tossed the second pair because the edge dye got away from me, but I loved the way the tooling turned out. Plus they were for me so I really didn't care too much. GBR
  18. Howdy y'all. I'm new to leather working and have made a few projects to get into it. I just found this forum resiliently and it has been a great learning tool. I think the hardest thing about starting out is that when you finish a project you know exactly where every little flaw is on the piece because you get to know it so well before you are done. It may look great to someone else but it always catches my eye when I look at it lol. Here are my first projects I have completed. The first is just a set of spur straps stamped with a good basket weave stamp and finished with cheap tandy finish. Those bottles have been thrown out. The second was my fist attempt of finishing a basket weave with the Sheridan style finish.
