  1. I bought this exact same kit. WOW I had a lot of things missing and there were no patters to trace out for the projects that come in the kit. I was VERY disappointed and I bought this kit from SLC. Granted I will probably continue to buy other things from SLC, but I sure would suggest you go a different route than buying a kit from them.

  2. shoot I cant even afford a maul let alone 900 bucks for the likes of that :jawdropper: , sure looks cool tho

maybe if I ever hit the lottlery for a few million

That is exactly what I was thinking. I mean really 1k for this thing. I know they could sell the whole thing for 550 to 600 and still make money. Maybe even more since I am sure they would sell more.

  3. I just wanted to get some other people opinion on this small issue I have with a supplier.

I ordered a pro starter kit from Springfield leather on the 26th of Oct. I received the kit on the 2nd of Nov. and noticed there were some pieces missing from the kit. Some of the pieces missing were the cutting board, a 4 prong hole punch, bees wax, the check book kit, and some different snaps.

I was treated very well by the lady I spoke with at SL. I received the missing items today the 6th Nov. Now my big problem is this. When getting a starter kit you expect to get instructions. As i did receive what I think is the check book, there are no instructions on how to tool it or sew it. I have 3 pieces of leather that I have no i deal what to do with. Also the kit came with a money clip kit. In this kit it has the instructions on how to toll it and sew it together, BUT in the pro starter kit there is only 1 stamp used to make the money clip. Shouldn't the stamps to complete these projects come in the kit? I have found 9 stamps that I would need to complete the money clip and with out any instructions or tracing patterns for the check book, i have no idea what stamps I would need. For nearly 270.00 I would expect this PRO starter kit to be a little more complete.

    Thanks for reading

  4. Thanks TwinOaks and Andy for the help. I will look into Adobe Illustrator and see what I can come up with. I totally understand the busy part. I own a motorcycle and Atv repair business plus trying to do a little something on the side. This defiantly eats up the time. Thanks again guys.

  5. This is just my .02 cents on this and I hope I don't piss anyone off ,BUT I think a lot of you are way off on this Harley thing. It has been stated that if you make something and put something made by Harley on it, you might be in trouble. I see this totally different. If I make something and I put say a Harley patch on it, then there is no way I can be wrong. Isn't that what Harley was selling the patch for in the first place? I don't think they expect anyone to buy a patch and then stick it in a drawer. The other way of thinking, I have a big Harley emblem in the back window of my truck, which I bought the sticker from a Harley dealer. So now if I sell the truck I am breaking the law?

This is done everyday. I don't know how many of my friends have Harley stuff on there vest including me. I don't see a thing wrong with it.

  6. This discussion finally got me in gear to go ahead and modify the stitching pony that I built. I realized early on that I needed to widen the spacer block at the bottom of the clamp arms to make room for padded jaws. Based on suggestions in this thread I not only made the new block wider but also angled the sides to give the arms some negative camber, I also resurfaced the clamp jaws for even more camber. Of course these mods called for a longer clamp bolt and a wider spreader block, but I got'er done. I still need to pad the jaws when I run across some thin veg tan scraps.

lwn803 really like your pony. Was wonder if you could tell me what you used for the "clamp or what some use a bolt". Looks like you have a lever style handle to clamp the jaws.
