Thanks guys, I appreciate any and all help. It's funny, I took the two different colored samples of leather from my gators and asked folks at work which they liked better. Almost without exception the girls all picked the darker leather and the men picked the lighter color. Is that normal? lol

Thanks for the welcome. I'm near Tampa. Yeah.... cant throw a rock around here without hitting a Gator fan! Let me know. I visit my elderly grandmother up that way quite a bit. The leather is really beautiful when it's done being tanned and surprisingly soft but very durable.

Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum and just starting to try and learn some of the trade. There is so much more to it than I had imagined. I am a retired Naval Officer and recreational alligator hunter. I have some skins getting tanned now. Just 4- and one is from a monster fat 12 footer. I am trying to learn how to do much of the basics myself but what I'm also looking for is to see if anyone is interested in bartering Tanned Alligator (wild Florida alligator legally caught and tagged by me) for some belts, wallets and purses for my immediate family. If bartering isn't advantagous to you than I would like to find someone that will make them for a fair price from the hides I supply. I also have several other friends that are always looking for something to do with their hides. Please let me know if anyone is interested.

Hi, I have just dropped off some skins at the tannery to get tanned in Florida. I caught these alligators myself (legally-cites tags attached) There are several reputable tanneries and price can vary greatly. It takes 5-9 months till they will be returned. During that time I want to learn how to make wallets and belts. Also if anyone is wanting to barter I would be open to that. Tanned alligator for belts, wallets and purses. Thanks
