  1. Great. Thanks! It's right on 2 corners of the bag so clamping it will be the tricky part (and keeping it in the right place). I will probably just use some small clamps or even one of the paper clamps.
  2. Thanks! I'll take your word for it on the locktite as I am very new to this...that's what I'll go with. I had said waterproof in the post before, but I did some research and it seems to be waterproof. These leather mailbags were made for the elements so I want as waterproof of a bond as I can for these small holes. Thanks again!
  3. How is longevity of it? Is it waterproof? I've just never had good luck with superglue. Always used glues like gorilla glue (in general, not for leather. This is the first time I have had to use glue for leather) Thanks!
  4. Would that be leather proof and semi-permanent? Does anyone use shoe goo? Sorry to keep bringing that up I have just heard good things about it with leather
  5. Would something made for leather like shoe goo be better? I've heard plain super glue isn't good for leather. Thanks!
  6. Hi guys. I have an old WW2 leather mail bag. It is in great shape overall but on one side, both corners have slightly pulled away from the bag leaving about a 1/2" slit in the leather. It seems like a hard area to sew and I was just wondering if there was any easier way to patch or just keep it together. Could leather glue work in this situation? If so, what's the best leather glue and are there any local stores that would carry it? Would gorilla glue or shooe goop work?(I need it asap) The holes don't effect the integrity of the bag but I just don't want the elements to get in there. So I basically just need something to keep the edges together. (the corners don't move) Thanks guys!
  7. Hi guys. I have an old WW2 leather mail bag. It is in great shape overall but on one side, both corners have slightly pulled away from the bag leaving about a 1/2-1" slit in the leather. It seems like a hard area to sew and I was just wondering if there was any easier way to patch or just keep it together. It doesn't effect the integrity of the bag but I plan on selling it with a clothing brand I am launching and I just don't want the elements to get in there. Is some kind of glue or something else an option? I'm not a sewer and I don't want to risk making the bag worse. Unfortunately I need this done asap. Thanks guys!
  8. I have some chromium died leather that I have stamped with brass stamps and it took the impression. I'm not sure what you mean...
  9. Not planning on tooling. I might stamp some letters just as branding but no tooling. I just want to know whether I can tell customers if it is naturally tanned or not and if it will develop a patina over time. These are somewhat old, would they have developed a color by now or only with contact?
  10. Seems to be soaking it up. The edge gets dark like it should if it was soaking it up
  11. I am trying to figure out some shoulder straps and I just got one in that is an old military strap. I was wondering if there was a way to tell by photos if this is natural tanned or not? I know there is a burn test but I don't really want to cut this up. Here are some photos:
  12. I need leather...which is why I'm asking here thanks!
  13. Hi Guys. I am looking for a simple, ideally weathered looking shoulder strap that has metal clasps at each end. With or without shoulder pad. They can be as skinny as 1" I would need at least 10, maybe more. Here are a few photos of what I will be attaching it to and the strap style I like:
  14. Here is another photo of a possibly strap I'd like:
  15. Anybody know of anywhere? Or possibly someone here who could make 10-20 simple leather hook shoulder straps for a reasonable price?
  16. Hi guys. I am looking for some nicer very plain leather shoulder straps. I need them for some old haversacks I am repurposing. Here is what they need to attach to: Here is what I'd like it to look like (or close to it) : Preferably something that is actually old or has an older/military feel to it Thanks guys!
  17. Thanks! Would the best way to do it be to wrap the leather around the handle and then sew it all the way through the handle or just on one side? I'm sorry...I am very very new to this and I am just trying to see if I can even do a job like this. Thanks!
  18. Hi Guys, I was wondering if anyone could help me with this. I am launching a clothing brand later this year, and I really wanted to incorporate some leather work. I am very new to leather so I won't be able to do as much as I wanted. However, I am going to be doing some custom military bags. I will be using 1970s surplus military aviator kit bags. I would like to wrap/re-enforce the canvas handles with leather, just something subtle. I don't have a sewing machine and I would ideally like to be able to do this without one. Essentially I just want the leathers to be leather. What would be the best way to do this? What would be the best weight leather? I want to use a natural leather (no chromium dies, etc) I would love any help you guys can give with this! Here is a photo of a bag similar to what I will be using
  19. Thanks! I won't be tooling. I'm new to this and I basically just want a nice natural leather that will darken with use/handling. As far as I can tell that is vegetable tanned leather...but I could be wrong. I will check out those places. Thanks again!
  20. So I bought a beautiful shoulder of chromium tanned leather...and even though it's gorgeous, I really want a leather that is going to patina with handling...so I think vegetable tanned is the way to go. I'm sure this is asked a lot, but where is your guy's favorite place to buy natural leather? I use brettuns village but they don't tend to get a lot of natural stuff in. Thanks!
  21. Is there anything that doesn't darken? I know oils and animal fats darken, but pecard is synthetic so I wonder why it still darkens...
  22. Pecards isn't oil based, that's why I think I've heard good things about it in regards to valuable leather
