Thanks GPAULDER AND WIZCRAFTS.. I never even considered a belt dressing but that will be my first try just to make things easy: from there I will use some of my wife wire she uses to make floral arrangements, that is plenty light. Any advice on splicing the drive belt on the 29K71. I have tried one but it still slips. I thought I should get some advice before I mess it up completely. Thanking all in advance, Jim King

I am very happy that my 29 is sewing so well with no skipped stiches; maybe I want to much from the old girl and should be satisfied with its performance after reading about the difficulties some of or friends here at Leather Workers are experiencing. I have a question for Constabulary. I have followed your advice on why my 29k71 was not feeding material and you were correct. I had the stitch regulator and gib reversed. She is sewing like a champ now but I am now having to push the footbar revolving joint down by hand to make the feeding foot fall into position to sew. I also cleaned the entire head assembly as you suggested. As far as I can tell nothing was bent during the cleaning process. I guess my question is how much is to much pressure to apply to feeding foot by way of the vibrating pressure spring adjusting nut to get it to fall down on it own after releasing the slide rod lifter. I would love to send pictures but that is way past my ability right now. All my children are always to busy to help poor ol' Dad.

I also am having a problem with my 29K71..The presser foot will not drop down to feed the material and if its pushed down into down position it seems to bind and will not raise to feed the material. I have tried adjusting the height adjustment but no luck. Can someone point me in the right direction for this fix.

This something I have been searching for. This will give many folks the heads up and insight they need to get a handle on the machine they own, You have done a very good job and I myself am very grateful. Many thanks.

Thanks Billy. I guess I'm asking to much from the "old girl" .Most of the projects I've sewn has been by hand. Turned out fine but I was looking to speed things up a little. My wife has a couple tack items she would like me to try and my daughter who lives down there by you [Pittsburgh] wants me to try a holster for her new Ruger 9mm auto. I just got my singer 29K71 it works but I have a couple of bugs I need to address; the thread I have thread to use so far balls up under the shuttle and is to lite - plus the stitch length is way to short. If I could get a look see at the various size thread and numbers that go with them it would be much easier for me to pick out a suitable size if you know what I mean. Gump: thanks for the reply. I 'am guessing that the larger the thread size number the thicker the thread. What I was hoping for is about the size of the thread you use in one of the auto hand stitching awls. Would tex 70 be close to that. Thanks jim king

Steve, will the Tex 70 thread work in a Singer 29K71. I'd love to get a hold of some if it will. I have been trying to locate some in my area - but no luck. I did buy a spool of nylon type thread from a local repair shop but all it does is ball up in the shuttle. Thanks Jim King, Elmira, NY
