Any kind of case for a smart phone is acceptable. -
Hi All! As this is the start of a new year and nothing has been new in here for a while, I am throwing up a new challenge to start the new year off right. This challenge will be creating smart phone case. Style, design, technique, use of color and uniqueness will all be noted. Challenge will be due January 31st and all entries must be in before midnight. And GO!

Miel, I use the Antiques more than any other dyes. I LOVE them. I wear a belt I made 5 years ago that is finished with the Tan Antique and a couple coats of Tandy's Super Sheen. I also almost exclusively use Super Sheen as a top coat. Like Resolene, it is an acrylic, but it doesn't dry as fast. I have never had issues with bleeding color. I have also used Saddlelac and Spray Sheen with good results on occasion, but Super Sheen is my "Go To" finish.

I use love the Gel Antiques and use them regularly. I have never had issue with them coming off, cracking or anything. I also seal almost exclusively with SuperSheen. I use the Gels by them self, over Cova Paints, Colored dyes and with resists and love the way it comes out. If you look at my gallery, you'll see a LOT of antiquing. As to your issue, I agree with Sona that is sounds like you had some form of a resist on there to block color. I'd keep trying.

Bear, I sewed it all by hand. Every stitch and it is all Saddle Stitched, so Really strong. Kodiak is the oil tanned Leather I got from Tandy Leather. It is their name for it. Still cow but nice pebble grain and a rich pull. For now he wants to use it when we camp, as it is too big for his HS lockers. But I think in Collage, he'll really like having the room to haul stuff. It weighs 7.4 pounds empty and I think would hold about everything a youngster would need for collage. And then some!

July Challenge (2013)
FaireLeatherFriend replied to FaireLeatherFriend's topic in Special Events, Contests and Classes
Rttingle, as you were the only other player posting pics, You win the Challenge. I disqualify myself, as I ran it. I like the mask alot. The reason I asked about the back side was the pieces that look like bolts. I was wondering if you used real bolts or how they were attached. My only critique would be to line it to cover those lose points of the screw dots. Sweet mask, bro! -

Monthly Challenge Poll

I like the idea of it being more a contest, but as I am not the originator of the monthly Challenge, I will have to talk to DoubleC about that. Some good thoughts so far! Keep them coming -
Ok, so I wanted to know what other projects you might be interested in for future Challenge Projects. Let us know!

July Challenge (2013)

Ok, I am told a little explanation need be given here for how to make a mask. I use a 4/5 oz leather as it is sturdy enough to hold shape and not to bulky for some detailed work. You will need some supplies such as Paper for patterning, etc. I am linking a decent tutorial in Deviant Art. http://ranasp.deviantart.com/art/Leather-Mask-Making-Tutorial-41572623 and it explains a good deal of it. the most exciting part is detailing! Quick guide to steps: Make a paper Pattern Trace it on leather Cut it out Tool it Mold it Dye it Seal it Attach ties Wear it If you want a large Beak or horns or some such, you'll need to allow extra material to be drawn in for them. Have some fun and I hope to see some reral cool masks out of the group! -
July Challenge (2013)

Ok, so I started one mask then switched to another version, as I also needed it for Summer Camp. I began work on a skull face that had a fairly cool piece of tooling, making it look like two layers. I will post pics of it, as well soon. But once I got it started, I realized I need something for Superhero day at Summer Camp. As I am not the cape and tights kinda guy, I looked at some of Marvel's more plain dressed and came upon Red Skull, who is just that. A Red Skull in a Black Trench coat. I have the coat, I now have the mask and will post pics later this tomorrow or Saturday. The Skull is a full face and over the head covering. -
Hail and well met, all, As I was sole entrant in the June Challenge and several chats with Double C, I am posting the July Challenge for all to see. While DoubleC and I spoke of doing a lacing challenge of some sort, I am thinking that tis time for a Masquerade Ball, after such a period challenge June had. So the idea is to make a Mask of Leather you might where to a Masquerade Party. It can be any style or theme you like but must be of leather cover at least one eye and some portion of the face. This means it can be from a Phantom of the Opera half Mask, to a Lone Ranger, to a full face. What do ya think?

So ends the June Challenge. One entrant lifted the gauntlet cast upon the field and accepted. Therefore, I believe tis my right to cast the next Gauntlet. Look for July Challenge in the Forums! -
