  1. @Catskin, I'll have to check that out tonight! @Constabulary, calling it a walking foot is a little bit of a stretch, its refered to as a snap-foot and the front presser bar is for an attachment used when working with buffing wheels, but I plan on manufacturing a new set of feet. I had a buddy of mine 3d print the first draft i made of the new feet I want to make so that I could get a grip of how wrong I was in my measurement and get a chance to correct it before manufacturing. http://instagram.com/p/pYwUSRRG48/ I feel bad now as I did not intend to hijack this thread, I should rather blow some life into the one that I made a few months back. Sorry to for the hijack AndreNL.
  2. Catskin, where are the timing marks located? I did fix the camwheel in position a while ago when I did some cleaning as I noticed there was grease and oil in the hole with the screw that made it easier for it to wiggle out of position. Its been cleaned out and fixed with loctite now so it wont bulge a bit. I also knocked the shuttle race a little closer to the needle today in hopes that this would make it not skip stitches. Would you mind snapping a couple of pictures of your machine? Id love to see it.
  3. Glad I could help out! There is a small pigtail before the 1st tension disc assembly that isnt visible in the picture though, but dont forget that one. My adler has a large shuttle as well(Although singer brand) but I was wondering what other machines had at the point of delivery since mine isnt 100% stock parts. Yes I have, it does sew pretty well with just a few skipped stitches here and there but I am confident that can be solved by adjusting the needle to shuttle relation wich I will look closer at tonight. I would like to take the entire machine apart and clean it up properly but since its such a beast a weighs a ton, handling isnt the easiest thing... I will measure the feed dog tonight and get back to you on that. Thanks alot!
  4. Nice! I see you have found quite a lot of spare parts! Any chance you would consider selling me a feed dog? The one I have is in rather poor condition. Very nice catch with the shuttle race's as well! Mine had been previously modified with a Singer 7 Class shuttle race and has had the presser foot lifting lever modified as well as the tension roller disc assembly, but I am working on replacing some parts and generally overhauling it. Its a rather old machine from the time when they still we're black Is this picture working better? http://s16.postimg.org/svvem2fyd/adler_threading.jpg Perhaps I can ask you to do me a favor? What type of shuttle are you using in your adler? I see you have both the long and short hook version in your collection of spare parts but it would be very interesting to see what is actually inside of the machine right now. I actually dont remember where I found the manuals but I would be happy to email them to you if you send me an email adress.
  5. Let me know if the below link does not work. I just snapped a quick picture with my phone and drew in the threading on top of the actual thread in photoshop as the black thread really wasnt that visible. Let me know if you have any questions. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/15175657/adler20-7/adler_threading.jpg
  6. Nice to see another Adler owner. I have the Adler 20-7 that I am currently restoring and rebulding and I can help answer your questions to the best of my ability, perhaps we can helt each other and exchange experiences during the process. I have some manuals collected for the Adler 20 and 120 that I can send you, they cover the threading of the machine amongst other things.
  7. Copy, thanks alot! Will check out the oxalic acid!
  8. Very nice job, I've been looking at a machine like that for some time now so I might just pick one up when ever I find one at a reasonable price. How did you go about getting the metal parts so nice and clean? Comparing the raw metal parts in your video with those in the first pictures its quite a big difference.
  9. Yeah, I have needle positioners on the machines at work but not on any of my own units as I am so used to them I dont really need it. But I am still considering a positioner for the heavy duty machine as I will mostly be doing W-W boxes and harness work with it. My box says 563A-1 as well. I remember College-Sewing sold the earlier 561A-1 a little cheaper to get rid of the stock they had so they would only have the new version on hand.
  10. Yeah, the included manual leaves alot to wish for, fortunantly its not a very advanced motor so the different features are fairly easy to figure out with the keys. I didnt get it with the needle positioner though, but I might very well order one and upgrade with it later. I did sew 3cm just as a test to see what its capable of but I doubt i will be working with that thickness later. I should probably update my thread regarding the machine I am working on when I get some time left over.
  11. I actually ordered the same one, right about the time you did and made a temporary install on my machine restoration project and I am very happy with the motor this far, plenty of power even at a slow speed and will easily handle 3cm of mil-w-4088 Type8 webbing. But what really made the difference for me was the fact that motor, controlbox and "throttle" were separated so that I can mount them where I please.
  12. My Adler 20-7 uses the 1001 needle according to the information I have found. But it works okay with the 1000 needles as well.
  13. That truly is an awsome collection of old sewing machines! I'd love to see more of the old heavy duty singers!
  14. Thanks Steve! I actually emailed Tomas Brinkoff @DA about the manual for the 20 class wich he kindly dug up and scanned for me and I believe that is the one you linked to. I havent had alot of time to work on the machine lately but did get a couple of spools of thread in last week. Some #5, #6 and #8 cord. I had previously had some concerns regarding the cycle of the machine and thought it seemed as if everything was going backwards and now that I threaded the machine and tried to sew it off, my concerns were confirmed. Spinning the extra hand wheel towards me to cycle the machine(as instructed by the seller) cycled the cam in the opposite direction while the feed dogs were going in the right direction. This means the tensioning cycle of the thread take up lever is working backwards and its not tensioning properly, leaving a big loop of thread in the shuttle. This got me a little bit concerned, but also got me thinking so just to try I reversed the rotation on the extra handwheel and tried to sew it off and to my surprise, the stitch was perfect. However, the feed was in the opposite direction, feeding towards me. Once again, I was a bit concerned about what I had purchased. Now, the machine doesnt have a reverse per-se, but I figured I Could try to unscrew the cover plate for the stitch dial adjuster and dial it all the way up to the top and see what happens. Turns out, this made the machine feed in the right direction, so I put the plate back(upside down) and the machine is now feeding as its supposed to and its doing pretty nice stitches as well. Its missing some stitches though wich most likely is due to the timing being slightly off and but I'm not sure how to adjust the timing of the shuttle race in relation to the needle on an oscillating hook machine, and I was hoping any of you gurus would be able to point me in the right direction? With the lack of available service manuals, I'm refering to the Adler 120 class manual for information on timing. According to the manual, the lower edge of the hook shall align with the upper edge of the needle eye when the needle is 7mm(or 8mm, depending on model), past the lowest position of the needle. This is the state illustrated in the above picture. As you can see the hook is about 3mm to far advanced in its cycle to properly catch the thread and I was hoping any of you guys could help out here. The shuttle, shuttle drive and shuttle race has been replaced with a Singer unit by the previous owners(for some reason).
  15. In the video you can see a piece of thread locked in between the bobbin basket and the drive shuttle/hook/i-dont-know-what-its-called-in-english. Get rid of that and it should be able to turn.
  16. Hi, From what I've learned since I got this machine -much thanks to Trox- it seems the Singer 7 Class is largely based on the Adler 20 class machines. Some parts are in fact the same or similar and there seems to be some level of compatibility between the two machines. E.g the Adler 20-7 I purchased has a Singer shuttle race as well as Singer shuttle. I am currently working on a new table and mount for this machine and will soon be ordering a new motor and also toothed timing belt and pulleys.
  17. I got the 20-7 this thursday and I was surprised to see the size of this machine and its needles, Its huge and built like a tank. I did get some pictures of it for you guys as well. The feed for this machine is quite interesting and I intend to manufacture a new set of presser feet, more suitable for the kind of sewing I intend to use it for. More images in these links as I didnt want to spam the thread with large images in case there's someone on a slower line. http://genocideinc.com/adler20-7/Adler20-7-2.jpg http://genocideinc.com/adler20-7/Adler20-7-3.jpg http://genocideinc.com/adler20-7/Adler20-7-4.jpg http://genocideinc.com/adler20-7/Adler20-7-5.jpg http://genocideinc.com/adler20-7/Adler20-7-6.jpg http://genocideinc.com/adler20-7/Adler20-7-7.jpg http://genocideinc.com/adler20-7/Adler20-7-8.jpg http://genocideinc.com/adler20-7/Adler20-7-9.jpg http://genocideinc.com/adler20-7/Adler20-7-10.jpg http://genocideinc.com/adler20-7/Adler20-7-11.jpg
  18. Hey, Yeah, the seller mentioned the machine had been previously used in service for manufacturing polishing disks up until a few years ago and I would get it complete with stand, 380v motor and addon work table with the attachment. He also mentioned the machine had been modified by a company in Denmark although I dont know what kind of modifications they did. Once I get the machine I'll do a thorough inspection and take a couple of pictures of it all for you. Shouldnt take more than a couple of days. The 800w motor I spoke about is a generic chinese servo I spotted on ebay for $145 or something in that area. Granted it's chinese and might not be up to par compared to the quality Efka's, but then again this machine wont be running 24/7/365 so I'm sure it'll be good enough for my needs.
  19. I really havent decided as to what engine it will be, probably something generic that I pick up on ebay or similar just to try it out. I guess I'll have to look into manufacturing any parts that I may need by myself then. Please do let me know if you find any of them again, as long as its not problem for you.
  20. Hi all and thanks for having me, this seems like a great forum full of know-how, resources and some extremely fine work from you guys. Now, I'm not a leather kinda guy as I work almost exclusively with nylon, what mainly drove me here was my interest in the heavier sewing machines and my aspiration to become a Parachute Rigger(yes, I also skydive). I've been sewing and developing products for my customer for the better part of the last 9 years or so, mainly using my Dürkopp Adler K267-333 until I invested in a Juki LK-1900-A-HS programmeable tacker to speed up my work. Just a couple of days ago I purchased my first real heavy duty machine, and Adler 20-7, as a first step in building the machine park I need to become a rigger. I'm looking forward to further take part in this forum and hope that I one day will be able to contribute as well.
  21. I recently purchased an Adler 20-7 machine(will be delivered next week). Quite old, but fully functioning. Although I do expect I will have to fix it up and do some minor modifications to suit my needs. I know most(or all) if you guys are working in leather so I'm probably a little bit of an outsider as I only work with nylon and I'll be using it for heavy sewing in webbing of different sorts and thicknesses. Im hoping you guys could help me out a little here as I was wondering about sourcing spare parts such as presser feet and also if the Adler 20 class is compatible with parts from e.g the Singer 7 Class machines. I'm planning on building or purchasing a new table and also replacing the 380v clutch motor with an 800w Servo. Unfortunantly I dont have alot of pics to show off at the moment, but if any of you guys want a look I'd be happy to snap a couple once I get it next week. Regards,
