These look great to me! Are you using a leather sewing machine? -
Ram Skull Clutch
jessmead replied to jessmead's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
mrdabeetle: that's not mean at all! I totally agree. I actually made this clutch for an event last Saturday and I didn't have enough time to order proper brass hardware. The beauty of making something yourself is that I figured I would just rip out some of the stitches at a later date a replace the Dee ring. -

2 New Hand Bags
jessmead replied to dentat2's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Looks great! I would love to see a side view! I've been interested in making a barrel bag myself. -
So this is my first wallet - a prototype for future wallets that will be tooled. Outer wallet and back interior is veg tan, while the interior is pig skin. I had to get creative when coming up with a wallet that I could tool as I wanted the edges to look nice but skiving the veg tan down for the interior was not my idea of a good time and I wanted a nice edge on the ends of the wallet, hence the fold. Let me know what you guys think!

So after a week of tooling, dying and stitching, here is my first project complete. Stitching around the curve in the gussets was tough but after a couple of jabs to the thumb with my awl I washed off the blood and wisened up. My stitching needs work but other then that I'm pretty happy with this as a first project and I hope you all enjoy.

That title should say "I've been tooling for A week"! I got my basic Tandy tooling kit and some extra scrap leather about a week ago and just started tooling, which I quickly found out I love. Today I'll be picking up some stitching essentials and start learning that step. These forums have been imperitive to my ability to learn new things and ask questions and I just wanted to show everyone the most recent peice of tooled scrap that I've done, also trying out the sunburst dying effect with some brushed and paper towel. Thanks to everyone for the wealth of knowledge available here!

Hi everyone, I'm new to leathercraft and just started practicing tooling. My question is; how do I dye the leather to get the effect in the photo below? Thanks!
