I want to order a Barry King swivel knife, but I don't know which one to get. There are different barrel sizes, different blade sizes and angled versus straight blade. Too many options... help! I have medium sized hands for a woman. I have never used a swivel knife, but I am pretty dexterous. (Hand-spinner and weaver for over 20 years.) I plan to work on mostly small to medium sized leather projects (belts, wallets, small cases.) (I don't know what makes the difference for making the choice, so I'm trying to give whatever info that may be pertinent.) Thanks!

Dry Before Dying?

Thanks, everyone! I've put several light coats on today and I LOVE it! I think I've been bit by the bug. :-) -

Thanks-- It is so great to have your advice! So by multiple light coats, do you mean 3 to 4, or more than that? -
Dry Before Dying?

Thank you all for the input! I was impatient to dye, and didn't have any neatsfoot oil, so I went ahead and applied the dye while still damp from the water. It looks good so far! Very black and even! (It helps to read the label, too. It actually says apply while damp... I didn't notice that at first.) It is interesting how there are different methods that all seem to work with different people. I like having different options. Now for the Resolene --- The bottle says apply after dye has dried completely, and to dampen slightly with water before wiping on the Resolene. Patience is not my strong suit, so it is going to be hard waiting. I guess I'll do the Resolene tomorrow. Thanks! (Hi Ray, I'm way up north near Huntsville. Nice to see another Alabamian here!) -
Thanks for the clarification! :-)

(Actually calling myself a newbie is a misnomer as I just order some supplies yesterday and have yet to do anything.) Is "leather carving" and "leather tooling" the same thing? Are you actually carving away any material in "carving" or are you just smooshing down the leather? I didn't think I was interested in doing any of that "fancy stuff," but seeing some of the beautiful and original work on here makes me eager to try it all. My first project is going to be a relatively plain double layer dog collar decorated with a few rivets. One layer is going to be dyed black and one tan. Maybe my next one will have some carving/ tooling. Thanks!
