  1. Serena - I assume you are using the thread to sewing the paper? If so 18/3 should work. You can get it from Talas in New York, or John Neal Books. They both have websites and sell bookbinding supplies. Hope this helps.

What thickness linen thread do you use for making leather journals, 2,3,7 strand? Where do you get your linen thread for making journals?

I would like to make my friends and family some leather journals and I am unsure of what to use for thread. Every tutorial that I can find on the internet says to use linen thread but doesnt say what thread count or where to get it from. Would Tandys waxed nylon work just as well or would the knots work loose because of the nylon. Here is the nylon thread Im talking about, http://www.tandyleat...g/1227-038.aspx

    Help please.

    Thanks, Serena

  2. Good morning Joel,

Just checking in to see how the new brown head maul is working for you. Are you finding it has a more "Dead Blow" feel? How's the balance? Does it seem to grip the tools better, with less ricochet? How does th "rebound" feel? Overall,,, what do you think? Please let me know. That also goes to anybody that has one of my new Brown head mauls. Thanks, Ed the"BearMan"

    Ed,

I have been using one of your new mauls for a couple of weeks. Until I received your maul I was primarily using a round maul with a tapered head. I was not totally happy with it and that is why I decided to try one of your mauls. Your maul is much better balanced and feels very natural.

Your maul also works much better when I'm stamping with my Pro-Series basket and geometric stamps. I have had trouble in the past with them bouncing, especially when I'm tired and I don't hit them straight on. Your maul is less fatiguing and much more forgiving.

I have several mauls and plan to eventually replace all of them with your mauls. Overall you maul is much better made, looks better and well worth the additional cost.

  3. Does anyone have any tips or tricks to evenly lay out a Carlos border so that all impressions are evenly spaced and the last couple of impressions as you come to a corner don't have to be crept in or slightly extended. I hope that made sense.

    Barra,

I have found the best way to evenly lay out border stamps is to start at the ends and work to the middle. I hope this helps.

  4. That's a really good question. I have had the same problem a lot lately. I am wondering if the swivel knife is cutting to deep? I noticed it happening more for me since I got a couple blades from Bob Beard that are a lot sharper than what I used to use.

I have this problem when I bevel deeper than my swivel knife cuts. It may also be do to the beveler being tipped away from the cut. Hopes this helps.
