  1. You might possibly use T---y Poundo Boards 12x12 # 3461-01

    12x24 # 3461-02

to go under your granite or marble slab to eliminate some noise.

I also remember reading someone somewhere say they used Carpet.

hope this will help with your neighbors ?

    Earplugs ? No, maybe not ! ------ Wild Bill46

How well do the poundo boards work? Never thought they were needed but if they work well might be worth it for my sanity.

  2. Love the progress people are making. Glad people are willing to show their unfinished work. Made me want to show my progress.

I'm on vacation currently so spending time with the family has cut into the project time I was expecting to have. That said it's coming along. I don't like the coloring difference but it's going to have to work because I didn't bring enough leather to do anything else.

  3. Out of curiosity, wouldn't that affect the overall strength of the stitch? I thought that you don't want to remove the leather but punch through it so it can heal around the stitch. Might not be a huge issue but I thought I'd ask cause I'm still a rookie.

  4. In the middle picture with the lining done, are the linings just glued onto the leather? Or is there a crazy process that I don't know about to make that happen?

    EDIT:

I don't know the dimensions off the top of my head but you might just want to start with some of the other patterns that are on the boards here. The one below is one of the more popular patterns and should work as a starting point for sizing.

  5. Thanks for all the posts. I think I understand the "puckering" idea. I'll be making another one at work tomorrow, see how the glue helps out.

For what you are doing, . . . some home machines will do it. Go to JoAnns fabric and buy their upholstery thread, . . . set you stitches for as long as your machine will make them to start with.

You also will need a #18 or so needle, . . . ask them at Hobby Lobby for leather needles.

    I have two machines that will, . . . two that won't.

    May God bless,

    Dwight

I have a few home machines already. Looks like I just need to pick up a few accessories to try it out. Would cut down some time if it works. I like to hand stitch but I like to have options too.

  6. I used a premade zipper with stops already on it. Hobby lobby had a clearance deal and I have like 40 of them. Figured I'd buy a cheap hide and work with them.

I've been putting them to use for kids art supplies at my local church. I think I could make 30 of these things and the church could use them for something, so at least they won't go to waste.

On a side note since y'all mention machine sewing. Can a normal machine see leather or do you need a special sewing machine?
