  1. This seems like it would be an easy thing to do, but it is giving me more trouble that anything else. What tool are you guys using to cut out your leather after your pattern is complete, I have not been able to get a good, clean cut that is parallel. I am using a razor knife with good sharp blades on a rubber backing board and cannot seem to to get an even up and down cut, mine are angled one way or another and when the leather is glued together the edges are not even and when I try to even them up, I usually just make it worse. This is even worse in the curved areas. What side are you cutting from? Using 7-8 oz leather, should I be cutting in one pass? Thanks for any help.
  2. Don101 - I have to agree with SCOUTER, it is very nice. I assume it was used by the skinners? Is it your design or is it based on a period peice? How did you do the cross cut pattern, and with what tool? Nice work.
  3. Jeff - Very nice indeed, looks like you have a winner with this one. The adjustable clips should prove to be very useful. Can you share your hardware source with us, Clips, washers, etc?
  4. rsg3 - Now that is a very nice holster, you did good. I agree with Jeff about rounding the edges of the snap loops, but it looks great. How about a few more pics from different angles.
  5. Hilborne - I am quite new to this but I am molding first primarily because my design calls for a flat back and all of the gun needs to be molded into the front of the holster. Here are a few pic's of the front molded and one finished prototype. I think your holsters are looking really good and I am finding this leatherworking is mostly a lot of trial and error (In my case quite a bit of error) and it looks like you are well on your way.
  6. Thanks for the input, I will need some type of liner to shield the gun from the metal backplate. I'll post some pic's when I get it done.
  7. Any opnions about the merits of a lined vs unlined holster? what are the pro's and con's of each. Just starting out and my design idea calls for a metal insert between the back of the holster and the belt attachments and I am thinking of enclosing it in between the holster back and a lining. Thanks for any thoughts you may have.
  8. usmc0341 - Great looking holster, a really nice job. What are you using to stitch with? And what are you using on the applicator pad? Keep up the good work!
  9. Jordon, That is a good looking, original design, and should be very nice once you get done fine tuning it. Looks like you put a lot of thought into it. Thanks for the photo layout, it does help us new guys.
  10. Very nice, as has been stated already I too see a definite improvement, look like I have a lot of catch up to do!
  11. Randy, NIce job, looks like it will stay put when the gun is drawn, this is of course the most important thing for a pocket holster. The rough out is a good idea for pocket carry. As Always jt
  12. Thanks for the response, I will continue to pratice and see if I can get my quality up to par with all you folks. As Always, jt
  13. Hello everyone, I am new here and new to leatherworking as well. I made this with the info and tips I picked up reading this forum, this is my first try and I'm looking for some pointers. I posted on the main page but thought I would post here as well. Thanks in advance. As Always, jt
  14. This is a great fourm and I thank all of you for the information and advice presented. I have been reading here for awhile and have learned most of what I know (which isn't much) about working leather from you folks. Here's my first attempt, any comments are welcome, particulary in the edge burnishing department. As Always, jt
