Beautiful! Do you seal the leather before you paint it? That is what I do so I can use washes to get the coloring, and shadowing to look right. However I find the paint is easer to chip sometimes after it is dry. If you do seal it first what sealer do you use? If you don't how do you achieve these colors, and shadows without the leather soaking it up? Sorry for all the questions, but figure carving is my favorite, and you are about the best I have seen, so who better to ask.

Save your money, and buy a Tandy Craftool Pro, or a Berry King preferably the last one. They are both very good knifes around $50.00, and you won't regret your purchase.

Thanks for the compliments, and the criticism. I will have too agree with on that the leather was some old dry tuff stuff my step father had for years, and he gave it to me to make his belt. I gave it a shot, but after a while I got lazy and gave up. LOL. I think I'm going to look into getting one of those burnishing tools you put into a Dremel or drill.

Thanks. Mom liked it a lot glad to make her happy.

Very nice I really like what you did with the basket weave. As for as your cuts they look fine to me. Did you notice it before the finish was added? I notice when you add moisture like a dye, or wet finish is makes the leather swell a little, which makes the cut lines show up more. If you take a beveller to it it will diminish, but that will most likely mess up your finish. like I said the look fine to me I think your like most of us just to hard on yourself.

Sorry about the double post, it said something went wrong, so I thought I had to resize my photos.

Very well executed. Seems like a lot of work for a keychain though.

Well they replied back, and said too keep the junk, and they are sending me a new piece free of charge. I hope it comes better than the last stuff. If they do as promised at least they back up what they sell.

I emailed them hopefully they make it right. I was looking on there site again and I noticed the have the economy grade that sell for $19.00 and is about 5 square feet. I'm guessing someone just got lazy, and decided they didn't want to cut me a piece of grade B leather, and just sent this instead. Same square feet, but I paid three times the price!

WC is closer to you I think then the others unless you specifically want HO leather.
Oh and all the places I listed have better prices then SF for the most part.
Thanks for the info I'll definitely check them out.

Does anyone know a good place I can get some decent leather at a reasonable price. You wouldn't believe this garbage I got from Springfield leather today! I mean it was B grade, but I don't think I would consider it economy grade personally. Mostly junk for practice.

Looks really good to me can't wait to see the finished piece. The basket weave on the front looks fine to me the only criticism I could see would have been to make the whole thing more symmetrical. But that's in the interpretation of the artist if you ask me. I like it.
