Hi Phil, sorry I don't have any drawings of the shuttle, I just made it to suit the carrier, your friend may be able to follow the pics here to get the idea how I made mine, and my carrier has 8 teeth not seven, also the rack looks longer than yours as well, from what I have seen I think this machines were all made different, Sorry I can't be more helpful. cheers Richard. -

Hi sparkey45, that's a nice find, you are right about the parts being scarce, the rack and gear would not be hard to repair or make, the hook is the hardest, there is a guy on e-bay that I bought my base from worth asking he has other bases so it is possible he may have an wrecked machine you may get parts from, worth a try. here is the e-bay link, cheers, Richard. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ANTIQUE-1890-CAST-IRON-BOOT-PATCHER-TREADLE-SEWING-MACHINE-SOLD-AS-PART-DISPLAY/274038310771?hash=item3fcdf4c773:g:bd8AAOSwutlb1F7K&frcectupt=true -

Hi Mark, I used gloss Black Rustoleum spray paint, is a thicker paint than standard spray paints, and is fast drying, worked great for me as I hate waiting for the paint to dry Richard -

Hi Gordon, Thanks for your comment, your restoration was the inspiration for this, loved the combination of the gold and copper colors you did with yours, so had to copy it, I thought the red was a bit much but kind of like it now do you still have yours? Richard -

Hi folks, it's taken longer than planned, but slowly getting there, almost done now, should be up and running this weekend, here are a couple of pics of the progress on the stand, had to somehow match the stand with the machine, did not know how I was going to do that as the stand has a lot of gold and copper highlights, and suddenly had a light bulb moment, and here it is Thanks for looking, Richard. -

No, no shop for me, (it would look good in your shop but), I just love restoring old stuff, imagine all that you said and then imagine it working, this machines were made to be used, as you can see not even years of neglect will kill them, and is only a bit of paint and some leisure time painting it, hehe!! Peter the guy I bought the machine from,(we have become good friends because of it, I keep him up to date with the resto), saw what he thinks was the one in the photo or it could have been a similar one for sale for $20,000, he doesn't know if it sold or not, that's not my intention, I just want to use it and admire my handy work, I'm sure the kids will sell it first chance they'll get, haha. -

Hi Brian, yes, it sure is a work of art, I have a friend that is a welder, he suggested I bronze welded it, haven't had a lot of experience with bronze but had a go anyway, and done the pedal already!, just have to clean up now and reshape some of the details, once painted it will not be noticed, I can't wait either, haha!!, this is similar to what I have in mind for the grand finale, This is from a forum member's album, he's from NZ, gordond, hope he doesn't mind me copying some of his decorations, he's is an outstanding restoration. Off course mine has all the battle scars!! Richard. -

Ok, received the base, no transport damage as it was extremely well packed, however, I wish he would have been a bit more honest in the description of the condition, "PICTURES FORM PART OF THE DESCRIPTION" to me is a lot of BS, and I told him so, not that he cared, as far as described all that was wrong was the pedal rod had to be replaced to make it work, would have been a bit difficult when everything is rusted together and is hard to make out if there is any damage on the item when the photos are of low resolution, my fault for not asking more questions, I guess. Any way, lesson learned, is all disassembled now the pedal is brazed some parts to be made, bolts and screws were rust welded/seized so, some had to be drilled others just snapped off, no big deal, thanks for looking. More photos later. Richard. -

OK, had a hard time getting it right, it would sew just a few stitches, then would start missing them, it drove me crazy all day, and then found that the thread pick up arm spring was the problem, it was to hard, some adjusting and now here it is, finally it is sewing, I don't know if the stitches suppose to look like this but I'm very happy with it, from the left, 1st row is the back side, then the top side both with the original needle, the other 2 right rows, top side with 29k needle. Now I have to wait for the base to arrive mid next week, I hope in one piece thanks for looking, Richard. -

Made the second hook, did a little bit of stitching on a scrap bit of leather, fine with normal sewing cotton and big needle, I will have to match needle and thread properly to see if I get good results , it has been a long day but happy with results so far, hook still to be properly polished and then hardened, more experimenting to be done tomorrow after work. thanks for looking. Richard.
