  1. Did a partial de-construction. No additional tape or leather strip. I'm confident that ,at least for this particular version, the cover leather is cut slightly oversize, stitched and then trimmed closely. I tried a test piece and was surprised how accurately the trimming could be done. Shears have to be good quality and sharp. You can ride the point of the shears under the flap and tight along the stich line as you cut. Thanks for taking the time to help.
  2. I have made many roper style products out of veg tan but I want to start using softer leather for more fashion type products. No experience at all in that arena other than being a very good on the sewing machine. So I found this old Daytimer leather binder in my attic which is exactly the kind of thing I want to start making. The interior is no sweat as it is very similar to the stuff I make already in veg. One thing different in this softer leather is how the outside main cover piece is attached. In the zoomed in view of detail "A" The front cover wraps around and is sewn around the entire periphery of the product. The wrap around is less than 1/4 inch and is very consistent around the entire path. I cant see how this could be done with a pre-cut piece. My thought is it is trimmed after stitching with some sort of precise tool I am not familiar with. Am I all wrong here? Hope someone out there has done something like this before. I miss veg already. 3. Hope I'm in the right forum. Can anyone suggest a source for custom logo embossing / debossing stamps?
  4. Can anyone help me determine the mfg. date of this machine? Also, I could really use a reliable source for parts. I've tried several and am tired of sending back the wrong item. Pfaff 1245 Dating.pdf
  5. Tried a 140 wont even sew the single layer. To be fair thought I don't believe this is the right model needle for this machine as the scarf is a bit different from my proper 180. What I did decide to do is to reset my hook timing and along with it the needle bar height. Before I even got started I noticed the spring latch on the drive shaft was tripped out of its notch. I would bet you are familiar with Pfaff machines (mine is a 1985 German model and my prized possession) so may I ask if you know what causes this. Anyway... reset the latch, fine tuned the hook time and needle bar height and I seem to be sewing ok with the 180 for now. I'm really bothered by that latch tripping. I cant really even tell when it happened.
  6. I use a Pfaff 1245 with #180 needle and #138-T135 polyester thread. While most of my work is done on heavy canvas and vinyl, I recently have found it necessary to sew 2 layers of 7 - 8 oz. veg tanned cowhide. The machine works perfectly on one layer but when I try to stitch 2 layers together it will not sew. I have maxed out my bottom thread tension and have tried every possible top thread tension with no success. The former owner of this machine (long passed) performed this kind of sewing frequently so I know the machine is capable. I found some references to this problem on the site but they were quite old so I thought I would re-submit the issue. Any help would be a life saver.
