  1. Thank you! The leather does come up a little too high on the grip for sure you can get a full grip but it’s not as comfortable as I wanted. The marks are from my 3 yr old smacking it with my leather mallet when I walked away from it for 2 minutes lol luckily the holster is for a friend and it was free so he is happy w it * also def gonna get the stitch line closer on the one I have going now. Thanks again
  2. That’s great advice. Ill try to knock some small stuff out now and compare the difference. Ross thanks I appreciate the encouragement! There is a welt in the sheath but I started the basket weave and it was horrible so I just kinda tried to blend it but as you can see turned out very sloppy. After making the sheath I hated the button snap on the back so I super glued it together. I definitely don’t think you’re being over critical this is exactly what I need and why I joined this site! Already learning a lot from you guys on here. Thanks again . Also picked up this hand crank converted singer what are everyone’s thoughts on there work with this particular sewing machine? It’s a 15-91 1950s model. The hand crank makes it cruise through even really thick leather. Certain projects hand sewn or every project sewing machine? Thanks guys
  3. Invaluable advice! Thank you for taking the time to break it down for me. Very helpful for a rookie like myself and I’m grateful thanks again. I’m gonna keep trying! Thats an awesome holster I really dig it.
  4. You’re absolutely right it was a little uneven! That was the only picture I had of the bk as it was a holster for a friend of mine and I gave it to bk to him already. That picture was before I wet formed at the end. I did exactly what you said but instead of a sanding block I used my spindle sander. I sanded re dyed , wet formed and then eco flo super sheen at the end. I’ve been using a few of my friends guns and making them holsters for practice. I did burnish the edges using just water but as you can see didn’t go so well. You can still see the gap in the leather on the edge but it’s very faint. Since then I bought some eco flo gum tragacanth and an attachment for my dremel. When you burnish the ends of the leather are you doing it before the project is one complete piece, separate pieces or both? I’m sure that seems like such a dumb question thanks for your patience. What are your steps? You don’t seem nit picky at all! I need all the info I can get and I appreciate everything. This was the finished product on the holster
  5. Again awesome advice! I have no mentor so all the information I’m getting from guys on this site has been great. Thank you for the compliments. I look at my work compared to your guys stuff on here and I’m so envious! Knock out a brand new identical sheath just to compare and critique. Sounds simple but makes a lot of sense. Thanks again Jeff
  6. Thanks! I appreciate the feedback really good advice.
  7. Thanks dude I appreciate it. Lots of mistakes but I’m getting better and I guess that’s what’s important just starting out. Thanks again
  8. Thanks. Just getting started with the knife work as well. I screwed up a few times before I finally completed a decent knife and it’s disheartening as hell bc of the time and effort put in. I think my knife failures contributed to me wanting to pursue leatherwork instead of forging
  9. Also for what it’s worth I forged the knife that’s in the sheath! Thank you for the compliments! All criticism is appreciated I know I’m gonna suck for a while
  10. Good to know! The back of the holster is def worse and that’s why I didn’t attach the picture lol
  11. Hopefully one day I can be on your level. Wow
  12. Awesome. Thanks Jason . Glad to be a member on here now with guys that actually know what they’re talking ab!
  13. Ok cool thanks for the advice Nick I appreciate it.
  14. Hello everyone. I’m new to leatherwork and I’m making several mistakes as I go. I dyed my newest project black and put a thin coat of resolene on it. My question is can the holster still be wet molded after being sewed now that I applied the resolene? If not can you just soak the holster in soapy water and re apply the dye and resolene at the end? Any help is much appreciated.
