Any updates on this topic? Should we just stick to the weaver press and pay the extra $$$?

This is great help, I really appreciate it!

Wow, and it’s as easy as that. Thank you so much!

I have held tension in the starting threads every time, That is why I am not sure why it continues to do this. I can confirm that the bobbin case itself does not revolve. What makes it even more confusing is that sometimes it stops happening but I do not think I am doing anything differently.
-
Can anyone explain why this is happening? This is after I was sewing a piece and then removed it and cut the lines. I was using different color threads so I know it’s not an issue with the bobbin, but rather the thread through the needle. It also breaks every once in awhile as I'm stitching. This is my first machine and I’m still trying to figure it out. Thanks.

So I finally pulled the trigger on a Cobra Class 26. This is my first machine ever so I am not so sure on a few things. All of the charts I am seeing match up the 69 thread with a size 18 needle. The guy I am buying from recommends using a heavier needle (20-21) with this size and says the 18 is too small and will scratch? He also seemed very hesitant to let me go that light on thread and wants me to try the size 92 with a 21-22 needle. Can anyone speak on this? I will be sewing 2.5-3.5 oz leathers, making wallets and such. Any recommendations on where to buy thread for the future? I see a lot of times that people have a tough go with machines leaving marks on their leather. I know there are things to do to fix that but I've also seen people use different presser foots. Does anyone recommend a different presser foot that I could purchase that would help with this? Does my machine come with a smooth bottom presser foot? Thanks for helping with a lot of these rookie questions.

Title is the question. I see the specs - mostly 3/8” vs 1/2 ” thickness, and the cylinder arm is smaller? But is there really much else different? If I am doing wallets, and potentially bags, does the difference of the two even matter? I’m leaning towards a TechSew 2750 or cobra class 26 but someone is selling a used 2600 for a really good price. I don’t want to settle though if it’s not going to suit my needs. Let me know what you think.

Many of you have briefly spoken into this but I was hoping for some clarification. In buying the Cobra Class 26, It comes with a speed reducer. The TechSew 2750 doesn’t come with a speed reducer but has the needle positioning system. I also think Wiz maybe recommended not having a speed reducer with an EPS? Can some of you speak more on why you prefer having one over the other so I can better decide between the two? It seems like most people say they have a speed reducer so they do not need an EPS, but from my newbie perspective, it just sounds so convenient and intriguing so why not have it if I can? Plus Stock and Barrel and Little King Goods spoke highly of it. Or clear up my confusion that I maybe shouldn’t have both together? Do I even need a speed reducer if I have the needle positioning system? I appreciate all of your help in my beginning of understanding these sewing machines. Not sure where I would be without all of the help.

Sadly, I do not have the ability to test out the machines. So this and the internet are my only outlets haha.

Great to know. Do you have a speed reducer?
-
To my understanding, this class of machines all suit the same type of work and support same thread sizes, etc. which is why I’m set on this class. They just have a few small differences here and there? Correct me if I’m wrong. Anyways, I am doing wallets and such. Hopefully on to bags in the near future. Nothing much bigger!

Warning: I am very new to all of this and am at a beginners level but have and am doing lots of research and starting to understand. I have so many thoughts. I’ve narrowed it down to this class though and I realize these are in the same this class and so if you can speak on the cowboy or juki too, that would be great. I am inclined to go with the TechSew due to many recommendations and most of the people I see having it. But I was given a better deal on the Cobra Class 26. I was given the deal probably for a reason (not selling like the TechSew does)... while the TechSew is out of stock. is it worth saving a couple hundred bucks on the cobra? The TechSew doesn’t come with a speed reducer. Do I need it? The cobra does come with the speed reducer... I also really like the TechSew NPS system and laser guide. Does the Cobra come with an NPS system? Is there a reason to have one over the other? If so let me know!

Buying my first machine - Cowboy CB3200
TaylorM replied to TaylorM's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
At this point in time, I am leaning more towards the TechSew 2700 or 2750 PRO. Unsure between the two. The 5100 would obviously be nicer but rather go with the lower cost for now, maybe. -
Buying my first machine - Cowboy CB3200

I understand what you are getting at though and you have helped me move forward in understanding more of what I want and what research I need to be doing to get what I want. The cowboy might be overkill, it was just recommended and I am new to all of this lingo in the sewing machine world. I am more so looking for a machine that will be more convenient for sewing wallets with a smaller hole and thread. So maybe something more geared towards 69-92. Do you guys recommend Techsew much? I see a lot of fellow leathercrafters in my world using those. -

I can get the CB3200 for a better price than both of these. Is there any reason to go with these over the 3200? -

Right, this makes a lot of sense to me and is kind of my thinking when planning ahead. -

I am looking to invest into a sewing machine. I was recommended the Cowboy CB3200 and the Cobra class 4 due to the quality of the machine. Right now I mostly work with wallets. The cowboy is more financially friendly so I’m looking to go with that. I have a distributor telling me he can sell it for $1,895, plus shipping! Any push back before I pull the trigger? Does anybody sell these used and is that worth looking in to? Maybe my comment was confusing. I am not getting the 3200 because I need it to be capable of only making wallets. I was recommended the cowboy because of the quality of the machine and so that in the future I can grow and work on other projects beyond wallets. If you have recommendations for a better machine that is known for its quality, please let me know!
