  1. Broke my first needle today and the tip is not in the material, therefore I want to dig into the bobbin/hook area. This is my first cylinder arm and flat bobbin assembly. I'm assuming the bobbin assemble can come out as a unit and before I wade too far in I want to clarify: If I remove screws #1 I should be able to lift the entire guts out; If I touch #2 I'm messing with tension and since I'm into this 2 weeks I surely don't need additional fun which I'll get to down the road. And while we're at it, timing needle hook etc. These two pics are both sides of the clearance at the same time, just two angles. Since I've only had (1) looped stitch on the back in 3 bobbins worth of practice on scrap I really an not interested in opening that can'o worms! Talk to me people Thanks testing reply notification
  2. On Oct. 20, 2025 I pulled the trigger on a Jianglong JL-1341 via Alibaba, $1555.05 delivered to my door. It arrived Dec. 20, 2025 and I had it up and running by the 25th. Fighting the flu it took me 4 days to put together and Immediately knocked out a JeroniMoney Wallet and was overjoyed with the quality of stitching, the machine in general and the end result compared to the pieces produced on my Sailrite Leatherwork. I then spent the next two weeks tweaking and running three bobbins worth of practicing on scrap leather. Time to start sewing bags for summer fairs Greetings
  3. ElfLeather; you've had your Jiang Long a few months now and I'm wondering how it's working out for you. I'm an old geezer with a limited budget and just can't put the $3k together for a known brand 1341. Jiang Long is quoting $666 (ominous I know) for their 1341 head only plus $130 shipping. Huge savings - what's your opinion of the Jiang Long now that you've had a chance to work with it? Thanks
  4. Found on FB a Durkopp Adler K205-370, 15 years old, recently serviced for $750. All looks good and I'll be driving down to look at it next week BUT is it too much machine for what I'm making? I work with upholstery remnants 1.0mm to 1.4mm thick, chrome tan, occasionally running 4 -6 layers under the presser foot. I'm sure the 205 and handle it but when I'm stitching a single layer of 1.2mm with a layer of cotton fabric and a zipper will the machine be too much and chew it up? Will I be able to dial back the tension to handle such a think mix of material? Examples of what I sew attached Thanks;
  5. Thanks all! Vise each piece between wood is the only option , or work with thicker leather.
  6. Thank you; I will inquiry with the vendor.
  7. Total newbee here, experienced with fabric but totally green regarding leather. Ultimate goal is to to assemble leather jacket working with scraps. Starting with a simple bi-fold wallet and youtubeing for info regarding "burnishing" and edge finishing. This item will be machine sewn on a Sailrite Leatherwork (yeah, already figured out a cylinder arm would be better for hats & caps). Sewing together is not an issue, working with finishing the edges is confusing. Material is very soft and pliable, has no stability to sand or bevel the edge. Once assembled the 3/4 layer outside edges are beefy enough to stand up to a sanding drum (Dremel or by hand) but getting a single layer to a nice finish has me baffled. Guidance or direction to a "how-to" video for working with soft pliable leather appreciated. Found tons of info on thick substantial but nothing on edge finishing thin and soft. TIA TonyD
