They're all the same. I made some upgrades. Love it. Get the cheapest one on Ebay and upgrade it. Two servo motors a must. Brass presser feet. German knife, shop vac attachment. Ali Babba has ever single replacement part.

Thanks for sharing that information. I've only had it a week but couldn't imagine not having it now. It has a stone feed wheel which works great on the 2 to 6 oz veg tan that I've been using. I see there's rubber wheels and fluted metal wheels available. Also see presser feet with rollers too. So much to learn! I'm happy with what I got, especially for the price. I now know there's no need buy as a package. I didn't want to deal with having to pair up a motor but any servo motor with 600 watts or more pairs nicely. It's a little bit cheaper if you buy separately from different sellers. There's a bunch of sellers on Ebay.

Ill respond to my own post. I took the plunge. Bought a complete setup, servo motor and controls under $800 shipped on Ebay. Identical in every way to my friends techsew except for the clear plastic guard on the side. Even came with an extra round file and oiler.

I can't complain about that price but just don't want to waste time on a machine I can't use. You Makena great point but would feel better knowing I could use it for 2 layers of 5 Oz veg tan! Wishful thinking.

I have an opportunity to buy an old Bonis Fur sewing machine. I've been hand stitching for months, mostly totes. I make 2 or 3 a year. I can't justify a sewing machine for my needs but this is local and $150 with table and motor. Does anyone think it can utilize this machine for making leather totes? Maybe the long seams before I turn the bag. Thanks for any help.

Thanks for the reply! I'm using 5 Oz finished veg tan, pretty heavy. I have a couple sides I must use and can't split it now. I hand sew and put a great deal of time into my project, overkill. I make for family and friends. I like the microfiber bag liner from RM Leather but I haven't found it in the colors I need.

Does anyone have any knowledge about these leather skiving machines on Amazon and Ebay. Ebay has complete packages for under $800. Includes Skiver SM-801, hardware and servo motor. Seems to be complete setup minus table and foot pedal. An upholstery guy told me they are all clones of Fortuna and they're all the same.with different labels as parts are interchangeable. Anyone have one? Thanks.

I'm new to leatherworking. I wanted to upgrade some of my tools. I already own an cheap Owden French edger and wanted to try a better quality and larger edger. I ordered a Barry King french edger and could barely cut butter with it. Nice looking tool but it requires alot of effort to skive. Only works at a single particular angle. My Owden goes to town with much less effort. I sent an email to BK and they said I have to find the right angle and to send it back for an evaluation if unhappy. Not sure what to do here. Should I just resharpen it or return? If i send it back, its going to be for a refund. Really dissapointed.
