  1. Thanks Badger, that's the best idea I have heard yet. I am sure I have at least 2 if not 3 of them on the floor under there somewhere. Ben
  2. Ok, I said to myself before I started to pull apart the bobbin holder on my Singer 29K58, "What ever you do, don't drop the thread tension spring screw!!!" Funny how these things goes through your head just as the spring flips on to the floor and gets lost for ever. Can anyone lead me to the best place to get parts like this for this machine. Someone who might have things of this nature in stock. I would probably buy more than one and the springs as well. All the stuff that frequently gets lost along the way. Or should I just deal through a local Singer dealer??? Ben
  3. That's awesome. Thanks for the help.
  4. Hello everyone. I am returning to the leatherwork industry after almost a full decade off. through the 80's and 90's I worked at and then owned Hockey and Figure Skate sharpening and repair outlets (On Edge Skate Specialists! - Universal Sports Repair). In these establishments we offered skate repair, equipment repair and refurbishing that included loads of leather work of all different facets but also skate sharpening. Anyway's long story short, I have a 29K58 patcher and not much else and I am going to restart my leatherwork hobby/carreer and I am stumped in the name department. I have motorcycle and scooter riding friends and would imagine that I would get involved in that type of work, I also still know people at the rinks and would imagine that I might do some of that but I wouldn't mind making the odd handbag either so some form of jazziness to the name wouldn't hurt either. It's just tough to try to encompass all the facets of the business in one catchy slogany type name. What do you call yourselves??? And am I making too much out of this...?
  5. Do you have access to Claes? I loved mine and I think it would do everything that you needed it to do, including drain your wallet. Ben
  6. I conure, it looks exactly the same as my 27, but this would be a new 127 - 128. It has a vibrating shuttle as opposed to a rotary bobbin, so expect to have to wind bobbins on a very regular basis. They are pretty user friendly but you might look at going with a rotary bobbin machine as they are easier to find parts for and far less noizy. Again, I have restored one of these machines before and if you would like more info, you can get manuals and info from Singerco website.
  7. Thanks everyone. I have a tracing of the slot that needs to be cut, so I am all good for my trip. I have designed the leg to look the same as the irons and my father will saw the fretwork and the Singer oval S in the leg as well so it will look like the irons continue up to the table. I will post pictures when it's done. Thanks again
  8. Thanks a bunch for the suggestions. Teh probelm is not that I don't have the base, I don't have the machine yet either. I have the machine and base that I am picking up after I get back from where the scroll saw is. The design is pretty simple, the part that I am trying to have sorted out is the scroll sawing template. The hinges, table height, and clamps are all things I can sort out when I get back and actually have the machine and base to work with. My biggest questions are simply about the dimentions of the machine itself and not really the table at all now. I have sent a couple of messages to some people with doctored up pictures to get the size of the hole sorted out. I could return from Manitoba with a blank peice of wood with just the hole cut and work the rest out from there. I am just not the owner of a scroll saw, nor am I as amazing as my father at using one. This is all helping greatly, so keep the hits coming.
  9. Thanks. I have that link. I am specifically after things like the thickness of the table, the height of the table, actual dimensions of the arm. I have some pictures but there is some things that I need specifics on. Thanks again. Ben
  10. Someone is closing thier Hockey equipment repair shop in Canada. Check out Kjiji.ca in Ottawa, Ontario, probably 10 machines for sale by the same person. Couple Adlers etc...
  11. Hey everyone. I am picking up a Singer 29K58 at the end of May, the problem is that I am visiting my Scroll Sawing father in the middle of May. My hope was to do some measuring of the machine and have my father make a table attachment while I was there. I won't have the machine before then and I probably won't be back to Manitoba for a year or so. I was ondering if someone with the table attachment could take some pictures and measurements or if someone with the machine itslef could do the same for me. You can email me at ben at hendrixequip dot com Thanks
  12. Hello everyone from Ontario. I had introduced myself about a month ago, but no one came back to say they were from Ontario at all. I guess Kingston is too far from the Center of The Known Universe (TO) Anyway, when I was working and living in Manitoba, I used to deal with a company called Wharkov-Safeer http://www.warkov.com/ they have absolutely everything leather. Tools, supplies, hides, glues. They ship to Ontario as well. Maybe check out the site.
  13. Hey everyone. I just found this group through a Treadle Sewing Machine group, the other day. I have just aquired a Singer 29K58 from someone on that group and was asking about Leather Work resources and this site came up in conversation. I live in Kingston, Ontario but was raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba where I owned and operated Skate Sharpening and repair outlets. I offered a wide range of equipment repair services and leather work was always involved as most Hockey equipment and figure skates themselves are made of leather. I found a machine that I am picking up later this spring and it is the same machine that I learned on almost 20 years ago. I am super excited to get back into leather work, as I was dabbling in all sorts of things when I had to get rid of all my equipment to move to Ontario. Thanks for this wonderful resource and I hope to both learn and contribute experience in the future.
