Members JustWakinUp Posted October 22, 2007 Members Report Posted October 22, 2007 Do any of you guys that use this stuff have a problem with the color? Let me explain; I grabbed a piece of scrap last nite and some shearling to lay the stain on, I put one coat on and it looked fine, waited 2-3 minutes and applied another coat. When the second coat went down there was a strange greenish tint to the color. This weird discoloation did not go away upon buffing either. It was there to stay. Any ideas why that is? It's happened on more than one occasion, and im thinking of steering clear of that stuff if that's how it works. Quote
pepin1948 Posted October 23, 2007 Report Posted October 23, 2007 I think, and I could be remembering this wrongly, the directions say one coat only. Just popped into my local Tandy last week and bought a bunch of the new stains/dyes. They had given me a nice color chart pamphlet that describes each type of product and what to use it with/how to use it. Quote
Contributing Member ClayB Posted October 23, 2007 Contributing Member Report Posted October 23, 2007 I was going to check the directions too. It seems like the All in One would have a sealer in it, thus the name. Once the leather has been sealed, the next application probably is going to just sit on top and not soak in at all. Members whinewine Posted October 23, 2007 Members Report Posted October 23, 2007 It's recommended that all-in-one be applied heavy for the first (& only coat). Quote
Ambassador abn Posted October 23, 2007 Ambassador Report Posted October 23, 2007 JWU, I've used the Eco-Flo All-In-One stains extensively, and the quick road to disaster is to apply a second coat. The second coat will actually lift the first one, so you're left with a smudged surface. Now, a greenish tint? That's new to me. What color were you using? Hopefully, you were experimenting on scrap and can just trash it and try again. You can coax some beautiful colors from All-In-One if you're skilled at getting that first coat on right. The recent belts on my web site were done with Fudge Brown, the checkbook cover with Acorn Brown, and the key fob with Primrose Red. But it's definitely a persnickety product with not a lot of margin for error. -Alex Quote
