I just bought some new bobbin cases for my Nakajima 280L on ebay. Great price, great shipping. BAD DEAL!!! I can't get the tension set. I am running a #23 needle with #69 thread in the bobbin and #138 top. Am I doing something wrong or did I just get dealt a raw deal??? I ran it this way before I got the new cases but my old one was in rough shape so that's why I bought these!! :censored2:

Elton try putting your spring from your old case on the new one and also try using 92 or 99 size thread on the bottom as it won't be as big of size jump. The only place I was able to get that size of thread in Canada before I moved was Warkov-Shafer Shoe findings in Winnipeg. Greg

Thanks Greg. I found 92 thread at Central Sewing in Edmonton. I'll try that tonight. Another thing I noticed is that these new cases are harder to get in the hook than the old one. It's not the bobbin tension I'm having trouble with, it's getting enough top tension.

Hi Elton,

Try backing off the bobbin tension a little. Whenever you can't get enough top to pull up the bobbin, the bobbin is too tight.

Of course check for sharp/straight needle and make sure you are threaded correctly.

Elton, I agree with Art. The bottom tension spring may be setup too tight. Or try giving the top thread an extra wrap around the tension bar, two wraps should do, this also should give a tighter stitch also. Hope this helps you out.
