How to take folds out of upholstery leather?

I bought some upholstery leather scraps.  Some of the pieces were folded .  When I try to lay them flat, the folds remain. What is the best way to flatten them out?

The leather is all 1 oz to 3 oz.  It is vat dried light brown,  medium brown, and black.  Some pieces have a shiny finish on the grain side with a dyed surface texture.  

I have thought of ironing it and saturating with water then letting it dry flat.

Suggestions anyone?

I wouldn't use an iron, but wetting it and , if possible, clamp it so it 'stretches' out a bit may help and let it  naturally dry out  . Perhaps something heavy over the  creases ?

I salvaged some thin leather from an old armchair - washed it in plain water then spread it flat to dry. I wasn't really trying to remove any creases, but it did for a lot of them. I expect if I'd slicked it that would have removed more

So try a piece, and see how it goes

Rocky, I just saw a Springfield leather video where an iron was used successfully - watch the video to determine the settings and water.  It was interesting and, perhaps, for you helpful.
