Members TonyGreen3455 Posted October 19, 2022 Members Report Posted October 19, 2022 Gents, can you explain to newbie what is the difference between Fiebing's edge dye (pictured) and common fiebing's spirit-based dye? looking for a proper edge paint and found that fiebing's has two colors only: black and brown tubes with a sponge applicator. suddenly found this on the Abbey England website and they offer it in a range of diff colors. so, is it a common paint or "special" - for edges only? what makes it "for edges" if so? CFM Hardrada Posted October 20, 2022 CFM Report Posted October 20, 2022 Don't use spirits-based dye: as it says, it is PENETRATING and it'll run off your edge into the adjacent portions of the leather, ruining the project. Edge dyes (i.e. Fiebing's Edge Kote) are polymer-based dyes that will coalesce on the edge and remain there till wear and tear removes them or you sand/rub them off. Quote
